4. Safety regulations
Any person using the unit must observe the standard safety regulations to prevent incor-
rect operation or abuse of the unit.
The following additional safety regulations must also be observed:
- The unit must only be opened outside the Ex area by ecom instruments GmbH,
Assamstadt, or a person instructed by ecom instruments GmbH, Assamstadt.
The diffusing filter fixture may be removed for cleaning purposes (the LED housings
must not be opened). Without the diffusing filter fixture installed, the Handlamp must not
be taken to the Ex area. The permit will become void if opened without authorization.
- With the exception of the diffusing filter fixture and the diffusing filter compartment, the
unit components must only be replaced or repaired by the manufacturer.
- Only accessories, such as the corresponding diffusing and colour filters, approved by
ecom instruments GmbH must be used.
- The unit must only be charged outside the Ex area with the corresponding chargers
supplied by ecom.
- If the emergency operating light has to be activated due to an insufficient battery power
or other torch malfunctions, the unit should be removed from the Ex area as soon as is
possible.
- Protect the unit against contact with aggressive acids or alkalines.
- Application in Zones 0 and 20 requires that the carrier strap be used.
- The rechargeable battery must be checked regularly. See the instructions below for
how to check the battery.
The hand lamp's rechargeable battery must be regularly checked to ensure safety over
the long-term. Users can check the rechargeable battery themselves by carrying out a
simple test.
Modern lithium polymer cells are used as rechargeable batteries in the SHL 300-Ex. The
battery manufacturer specifies a life span of at least 600 charging cycles for the rechar-
geable batteries with correct use. This is the equivalent of around two years if the battery
is charged once daily. The information has been quoted from the battery manufacturer's
datasheets. It is meant as a guide and may vary depending on storage, use and so on.
For safety reasons, the capacity of the rechargeable battery must be checked for the first
time after two years and then every three months.
Carrying out the test:
First fully charge the lamp in the corresponding charger. Only when the LED on the right
of the charger station turns green has the lamp reached its full battery charge.
Then remove the lamp from the charger and switch it on. It is important that the lamp
shines with 00% light (press the main switch twice).

Make a note of the time you switched it on.
If the lamp switches to 2% light (orange capacity display to the left of the centre) after
less than three hours and 20 minutes, it must be sent to ecom instruments for inspection.
If the lamp continues to work at 00% performance (green and yellow capacity displays),
the SHL 300-Ex may continue to be used. Also see (Fig. ).
