For the SHL 300-Ex, high-quality lithium-polymer batteries are utilised. Whilst these batte-
ries have minimal power limiting memory effects, the battery power may still diminish over
the course of time. To help avoid this it is advised to periodically completely discharge the
batteries to maintain their full capacity. To carry out this procedure, leave the unit ON until
it switches automatically OFF. Then completely charge the battery outside the Ex area.

9.2.1 Charging Stations

The LG-300 HVC charging station is designed for the voltage range from 00-240 V AC at
50-60Hz and can be used both as freestanding and wall-mounted unit. A manual switch-
over of the input voltage is not required. Alternatively, the LG-300 LVC in-vehicle charging
station with an input voltage of 2 or 24V DC is available.
As soon as the charging station is connected to the power supply, a yellow LED (located
on the left) is illuminated on the charging station. Ensure that the SHL 300-Ex is switched
off and insert it in the charger by applying gentle pressure. Also the emergency operating
light has to be switched off if it is activated (refer to 9.4.). The SHL 300-Ex is correctly
positioned in the charger when it noticeably engages and the torch's power indicator is
illuminated (flashing). Additionally, during the charging process a red LED (located on the
right) is illuminated on the charger. The Handlamp can be inserted into the charger either
horizontally or vertically. The polarity of the charging contacts need not be observed. A
complete charging process takes approx. 0 hours. The Handlamp can alternately be
charged either in the HV or LV type charging unit. If the input voltage drops below a defi-
ned threshold value when the torch is charged in the LVC charger, the charging process
is interrupted and the yellow power LED of the charger starts flashing. In this way, deep
discharge of the on-board battery is avoided.
The charging process is monitored by the electronic charging system. It is started auto-
matically and stopped when the maximum charging capacity has been reached. During
the charging process, the Handlamp's power indicator flashes in accordance with the
state of charging. The charging process is completed when the right power indicator is
illuminated at the 00% level and the LED located on the right of the charging station is
continuously illuminated colour green. The charging station has now switched over to the
trickle charge mode. The Handlamp charging can be interrupted at any time by simply
removing it from the charger.
To take the Handlamp out of the charging station, slightly turn it at its handle and remove
it from the unit by gently pulling. In case of emergency, the Handlamp can be removed
from the charging station without turning it - providing the charging station is fixed in
position. However, it must be noted that considerable force has to be applied in such
instance, as the charging contacts simultaneously secure the torch in the charger. Refer
to Fig. 2.
Up to five charging stations can be connected together - by using the optional
connection cable.
