1
Object of approval and scope of application
(1) The object of this National Technical Approval is containers made of fibreglass-reinforced
plastic. Below the approved fluid level, the containers consist of an interior and an exterior
wall. The space between the two walls can be used as an interstitial space if a leak indicator is
connected. The capacity of the containers is 1,000 l, 1,300 l, 1,500 l, 2,000 l and 2,350 I. The
containers are shown in Annex 1.
(2) The containers are permitted to be placed in rooms within buildings and as individual
tanks outside, but not in the areas of Zones 0 and 1 subject to a risk of explosion.
(3) The containers may be used for non-pressurised storage of the following liquids.
a) EL heating oil pursuant to DIN 51603-1
b) EL heating oil grade A Bio 5 to Bio 20 pursuant to DIN SPEC 51603-6
pursuant to DIN EN 14212
c) Fatty acid methyl esters pursuant to DIN EN 14214
d) Diesel fuel pursuant to DIN EN 590
e) Lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, heat transfer oils (Q grade), mixed or unmixed, flashpoint
above 55°C
f) Lubricating oils, hydraulic oils, used heat transfer oils (Q grade), flashpoint above 55°C;
operator must be able to document origin and flashpoint
g) Paraffin oil
h) Vegetable oils such as cotton seed oil, olive oil, canola oil, castor oil, wheat oil
i) Silicone oil, silicone grease
j) Animal lipids and oils like sperm oil
k) Liquids pursuant to media lists 40-2.1.1 and 40-2.1.2* except for phosphoric acid and phthalic
acid
The maximum approved operating temperature when storing liquids pursuant to items a) to j)
and substance list 40-2.1.1 is 40°C, and 30°C for liquids pursuant to substance list 40-2.1.2.
(4) A vacuum method leak indicator with a usability certificate from the building authorities
can be connected to the interstitial space.
(5) When storing heating oils and diesel fuels pursuant to Section 1 (3) a) to d), the containers
can be interconnected in container systems with up to 5 containers of the same size in a row
and/or hydromechanically unbranched in two rows (block setup).
(6) National technical approval is granted without prejudice to inspection or approval provisos
from other areas of law.
