LP Vari-Flex Lamination Adapter Kit is exclusively to be used with the LP
Vari-Flex foot module for lower limb prosthetics. The VLX00001-3 LP Vari-
Flex Lamination Adapter Kit is available for users using LP Vari-Flex in
indicated sizes and categories:
1. size 22–24, category 1–5
2. size 25–30, category 1–9
The VLX00001-3 LP Vari-Flex Lamination Adapter Kit is rated up to 166 Kg
(365 lbs) – category 9.
EACH KIT INCLUDES: (Figure 1)
• 1× lamination adapter,
• 4× attachment bolts,
• 1× strip of sealant tape,
• 1× tube of Loctite 410
BENCH ALIGNMENT (Figure 2+3)
• Fit foot with selected cover.
• Adjust to appropriate heel height (using the shoe).
• Introduce appropriate socket angles flexion/extension and
abduction/adduction.
• Divide the foot cover into 3 equal portions.
• The load line should fall at the junction of the posterior and the
middle third portions as shown in the diagram (the mark on the brim
of the foot cover matches the one third portion).
FABRICATION PROCEDURES
• Fill the space between the socket and the foot with a material of
choice such as potting epoxy, PU foam or wood, depending on weight
and impact level of user.
• Bond the VLX30201-3 lamination adapter to the filling material.
• Wrap synthetic casting tape or similar tape and proceed with dynamic
alignment.
• When forming the filling material, avoid sharp edges and horizontal
sections as that reduces the strength of the socket (Figure 8+9).
DYNAMIC ALIGNMENT
The heel stores energy after initial contact, slowly releasing it at
midstance. The forward momentum generated by this action results in
the toe being loaded for optimum energy release at terminal stance. The
heel to toe action can be influenced by
• A–P positioning of foot
• Dorsi-Plantarflexion
• Heel Stiffness
LAMINATION TECHNIQUE
• Invert socket and secure in place.
• Clean the groove of the aluminum adapter with Acetone or similar to
ensure maximum bonding of the fibers to the aluminum.
• If foam or another porous material has been used as the filling
material it is
• recommended to coat it with resin to ensure that resin will not be
drawn into the foam when laminating the socket.
