RUN THE FOLLOWING CHECKS BEFORE THE FIRST START-UP:
Mechanical checks
Check that:
The foot bolts are tight enough.
The coupling is correct.
There is enough cooling air and that no impurities are sucked in.
The protective grids are in place.
The tightening torque of the disks of the coupling joint and of the fitting is appropriate (for single bearing
alternators).
Electrical checks
Check that:
The system is equipped with appropriate differential protections, in accordance with the regulations in
force.
The connections to the terminals of the terminal box are done appropriately (tight clamps).
There are no connection inversions or short circuits between the generator and external switches.
Please bear in mind that usually there are not any protections against short-circuits between the
alternator and external switches.
In order to avoid damaging the power transformers and generator, all the power transformers installed
on the generator must be connected to their load whenever such power transformers are not used,
their secondaries must be short-circuited.

6. MAINTENANCE

Any work on the electrical machine must be authorized by the safety manager and carried out when the
machine is off, at room temperature and disconnected from the power supply or network (including the
auxiliaries, such as the space haters). Furthermore, all precautions must be taken to prevent the machine
from being started up unintentionally during the maintenance phases. The environment in which the
generator operates must be clean and dry. To block the tie rods, use Loctite® 270 thread brake and make sure
the threads are not oily/greasy (if applicable, use Loctite® 270 solvent or similar).
In case of electrical connections, the Loctite® must not affect the electrical support surfaces!

6.1 Inspection and maintenance intervals

The frequency of the inspections can vary from case to case depending on the importance of the system, the
environmental conditions and the actual operating conditions.
Generally, we recommend a first inspection after about 100hours of operation (and no more than 1 year); then,
at least once a year according to the attached table.
During the inspections, make sure that:
The generator is operating normally, without any abnormal noise or vibrations, and that there is
no damage to the bearings. The functional data is correct.
The air inlet is devoid of obstructions.
The connection cables do not show signs of wearing and that the electrical connections are
tightly fastened. That all of the fixing bolts are adequately tight enough.
The above-mentioned inspections do not require you to decouple or disassemble the generator; disassembly is
only needed when replacing the bearings, in which case you will check:
the alignment,
the insulation resistance; the tightening of the bolts and screws.
