6 Maintenance, cleaning
and transport
The following maintenance work is required to
the MarSurf PS 10:
• Because the integrated standard is subject
to wear during calibration, the user should
check it at regular intervals using a separate
rough ness measuring instrument with a
skid less probe (see Section 6. 1 ).
The standard may have to be re-
i
placed after approx. 350 calibra-
tions. If calibration is performed dai-
ly, the service life is one year.
The MarSurf PS 10 and the probe are calibrated
at the factory and, therefore, do not need to be
adjusted.
We nevertheless recommend having the meas-
uring accuracy checked at regular intervals or if
there is any suspicion that the measured values
are incorrect. This is done by calibrating with the
integrated standard or with a separate rough-
ness or geometric standard (see Section 3).
The instrument and all other components
of the MarSurf PS 10 set must be pro-
tected from prolonged exposure to sun-
light, high humidity and dust.
High temperatures can shorten the serv-
ice life of electronic devices, damage bat-
teries and deform or melt certain plastics
or synthetic materials.
The instrument must not be stored in
cold environments. When it returns to its
normal temperature, moisture can form
internally and damage the electronic
circuits.

Do not touch the stylus tip. Protect it
from impacts.
Do not allow grease, oil or other liquids
to get into the probe.
As far as possible, avoid bringing the
MarSurf PS 10 into contact with oil,
grease and cooling agents as these sub-
stances can affect the operation of the
Start key.
Cleaning
• As needed, clean the MarSurf PS 10 with a
soft, lint-free cloth slightly moistened with
water or a conventional cleaning agent for
plastics.
• Clean the probe with a soft fine-hair brush
if necessary.
When cleaning, do not allow any liquids
to enter the instrument.
Do not use cleaners containing plastic-
dissolving chemicals (in particular ace-
tone) or alkaline cleaners (lyes).
Storage
When the MarSurf PS 10 and accessories are
not in use, we recommend storing them in their
carry case (or in the shipping box).
Do not allow the USB cable for the AC adapter
to become kinked or overextended.
