Advice. Make sure you distinguish the crossbar carriers
correctly by their designation on the glued-on label
(rear crossbar carrier, front crossbar carrier) -details-.
- Fit the front crossbar carrier at a distance of 700-1000 mm from
the rear crossbar carrier depending on the transported cargo or
the additional extension parts.
- The bottom ends of both crossbar carriers must be positioned at
least 10 mm from the end of the longitudinal carrier cap.
- 5, 6 -
- Angle the hinged part of the fastening mechanism below the
lower part of the lateral roof bars (detail).
Advice. Check if the seal of the clamping mechanism
hinged part is in the right position. In no case it may
be folded (Fig. 6).
- 7, 8 -
- First, place the catch onto the part of the fastening mechanism
that can tilt out and that is located on both sides of the vehicle,
as shown in Fig. 7; only then should you push the locking lever in
the direction of the arrow until it is secured by the securing lever.
If you do not follow this procedure, you risk grazing the surface
of the roof girder.
Be careful not to damage your hand!
- Replace the cover and turn the key to the horizontal (locked)
position. Remove and store the key.
- Repeat the previous steps for the second crossbar carrier.
Fastening accessories through the T-slot
- 9, 10, 11 -
- Remove the cover according to Fig. 2.
- Release the dummy plug using a pointed tool (e.g. center punch,
screwdriver).
- Remove the covering strips and inset the fastening components
of the accessory (e.g. for the roof box order no. 5L6 071 175).
- Reassemble the disassembled parts. Place the covering strips cut
to the required length back into the T-slots.
- 13 -
- When releasing the fastening mechanism, pivot the red lever
slightly to the side by a few millimetres. However, make sure that
you only pivot it far enough to release the locking lever.
If the red lever is bent excessively, there is a risk that
it may break.
Be careful not to damage your hand! The finger must
not project beyond the lug on the lever (see arrow).
ALWAYS ensure that the finger is not near the opening
in the lever.
- 14 -
Caution: Do not close the part of the clamping
mechanism that can be opened if it is not clamping
anything (i.e. not clamping the roof rails); otherwise,
there is a risk that an impression of the bars will be
left in the T-slot.
