The best cutting performance is attained with the recommended
depth gauge and distance (depth gauge setting).
1. Check the depth gauge setting during each sharpening.
2. Place depth gauge tool on the cutter. If the depth gauge
projects, file it level with the top of the tool using a flat file.
3. Round off the front corner to maintain original shape of depth
gauge.
CAUTION! Too large a depth
gauge setting increases the
danger of kick-back.
Guide Bar Maintenance
The guide bar requires maintenance just like the saw chain. The
bar rails must be square and flat and the bar groove must not be
widened.
To prevent such one-sided wear of the bar, it is recommended
that you turn the bar over after each sharpening.
Grease the bearing of the sprocket on sprocket nose type bars
with bearing grease and the special grease gun by pressing it
into the lube port hole while rotating the sprocket (fig.43). (See
maintenance chart)

IMPORTANT!

The guide bar is specifically designed to be a guide track for the
saw chain. Therefore, it should never be used as a pry bar or
crow bar. Any twisting, prying, or lifting inside the cut, shortens
the life span of the bar. No warranty is extended for such
application! (fig.42)
CHAIN SAW CLEANING
After each cutting task, clean chain saw thoroughly and check it
over for any damage. Especially important check points are: chain
brake, cooling air intake vent areas, cylinder fins and air filter.
CAUTION! To prevent eye injury, wear safety goggles
whenever using compressed air.
For cleaning, use only environmentally safe cleaning material
offered by dealers.
Never clean chain saw with gasoline (petrol)!

CHAIN BRAKE MAINTENANCE

Operator Check:
Check smooth functioning periodically. Remove resin, chips and
foreign matter. Apply grease or high temperature motor oil to
visible joints (fig.44).
Brake test:
- Start engine.
- Engage brake („on") while idling.
- Apply full throttle briefly.
- The chain must remain stopped.
Air Filter cleaning:
Clogged air and pre-filters result in performance loss and
increased fuel consumption thereby leading to elevated levels
of toxins and damaging components in the exhaust fumes.
Starting up is also more difficult.
Clean both air filters (if applicable, pre-filter and fine filter daily
after day-long cutting). Clean more often during increased dust
accumulation.
In most cases, simply tapping is best suited for the filter.
If filters are heavily soiled, they can be cleaned with non-
flammable cleaning solvents (warm soapy water). Both filters
must be completely dry prior to re-installation.
If filter elements are damaged, replace affected part.
No warranty is extended if engine failure is caused by improper
care.
For removal and installation, remove engine cover or
filter cover, close choke to prevent dirt particles from
entering the carburetor. Then remove air filter.
With two part filter, remove retainer clips and separate filter
halves (fig.45).
During installation, insure precise positioning, correctly closed
filter halves and proper alignment and fit on the carburetor.
CARBURETOR ADJUSTMENT
The carburetor is factory pre-tuned in accordance with prevailing
atmospheric pressure occuring at the location of manufacture.
Depending on the altitude of the work site (mountains or
lowland) re-tuning is required.
Adjustment specification are listed in the applicable model chart
contained in this manual (Page B).
The carburetor has 3 adjustment screws:
1. Idle check screw
2. Low speed needle
3. High speed needle
CAUTION! The carburetor adjustment serves to attain
maximum engine performance. For tuning, a
tachometer needs to be used to insure permissable
RPM.
The following sequence of steps is required for correct adjustment
and tuning:
a) Run engine warm.
b) Shut off engine.
c) Adjust basic carburetor setting.
d) Start engine
e) Set idle speed. Adjust L-screw to highest idle speed. Back down
1/8 turn toward left (counter clockwise) (fig.46). Adjust idle speed
to recommended setting. Chain should not rotate at this point.
Check throttle response of engine. If engine hesitates, open
L-screw a little.
f) Set for maximum permissable RPM. Apply full throttle with
warm engine.
Adjust engine RPM with the H-screw to required setting.
g) Re-check idle speed once more.
CAUTION!
Do not set a higher RPM than
recommended. This can lead to engine failure.
ANTIVIBRATION ELEMENTS (FIG.47)
Should vibration noticeably increase on the handle bar, after
prolonged operation when compared to new condition of chain
saw, check anti-vibration elements for damage, and replace, if
necessary.
