CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS
Note: Contaminant may be removed by following the appropriate steps in the
cleaning instructions prior to doffing or disassembly of the system. Use a
clean cloth dampened with a mild solution of water and liquid household
soap. Do not use petrol, chlorinated degreasing fluids (such as
trichloroethylene), organic solvents or abrasive cleaning agents to clean any
part of the equipment.
Wipe in an outward direction. To disinfect use wipes as detailed in Reference
Leaflet. The Powered Air Turbo may also be worn through a shower in order
to remove further contaminant. Showering should take place with the
appropriate filter cover in place. Do not direct water into the air inlet of the
Powered Air Turbo but ensure system is thoroughly cleaned during the
process. Do not remove the breathing tube, filter or battery during showering.
Ensure the system is dry before removing the breathing tube. Check the
Powered Air Turbo outlet for contamination and use a clean cloth if required.
The spark arrestor can be cleaned using water and liquid household soap.
Completely dry the spark arrestor with a clean cloth. If it cannot be cleaned or
is damaged then it should be replaced. The Powered Air Turbo can also be
immersed or put in a respirator washer for cleaning. Filters must be removed
and the air inlet and air outlet cleaning and storage plugs must be inserted
into the Powered Air Turbo first (see Fig 19). Plugs should be inspected for
damage and wear prior to each use. Worn or damaged seals must be
replaced. Plugs should be replaced every 30 uses or annually, whichever
comes first. Water temperature should not exceed 50°C.
Note: Powered Air Turbos which have been dropped or damaged should not
be immersed or put in a respirator washer due to potential water ingress. The
battery can also be immersed for cleaning. Remove the battery from the
Powered Air Turbo and use a cleaning cover (available as an accessory) to
keep the contacts free from corrosion (See Fig 20).
Note: There are three locking loops on the battery cleaning cover. The
largest loop position is for use with the TR-830 battery (see Fig 21).
^ Do not immerse without the battery storage and cleaning cover installed.
Do not immerse battery if damaged. If water is found between the battery
and cleaning cover after immersion, discard cleaning cover and replace. The
battery contacts may be cleaned with a mild solution of water and pH neutral
detergent. Ensure that the contacts are clean and dry before storage and
use. The fastener used for battery attachment can also be removed for
cleaning by pressing up on the thread side of the fastener. If filter is to be
reused:
^ Keep inner filter seal clean.
^ Never attempt to clean filters by knocking or blowing out accumulated
material.

Maintenance, servicing and repair must only be carried out by properly
trained personnel.
^ Use of unapproved parts or unauthorized modification could result
in danger to life or health and can invalidate any warranty.

Disposal
If disposal of parts is required this should be undertaken in accordance with
local health and safety and environmental regulations.
^ Dispose of lithium ion battery packs according to local environmental
regulations. Do not dispose of in standard waste bins, in a fire or send for
incineration.
Battery Charging
Select an approved charger kit and refer to the user instructions provided
with the kit. Batteries should be charged after each use.
^ The battery chargers for this system are not intrinsically safe. The TR-830
battery pack must not be charged in an area which is potentially flammable
or explosive. Doing so may result in serious injury or death.
^ Do not charge batteries with unapproved chargers, in enclosed cabinets
without ventilation, in hazardous locations or near sources of high heat.
^ Do not charge the batteries outside the recommended temperature range
of 0 to +40°C.
The battery may be left on the charger. However, for long term storage of the
batteries, 3M recommends that they are stored off the charger at
approximately 30-50% charge. The battery should never be left in a
discharged state. The batteries are designed to provide approximately 750
charge/discharge equivalents, during the first year of service, while
maintaining at least 80% of their original capacity.

^ The filter loading indicator is for particulates only. It does not provide any
information about gas and vapour service life.
STORAGE AND TRANSPORTATION
^ Ensure filters and batteries are stored in accordance with instructions
below. These products should be stored in the packaging provided in dry,
clean conditions away from direct sunlight, sources of high temperature,
petrol and solvent vapours. Do not store outside the temperature range
-30°C to +50°C or with humidity above 90%. If the product will be stored for
an extended period of time before use, the suggested storage temperature is
4°C to 35°C. When stored as stated, the expected shelf life (prior to use) of
the Powered Air Turbo and the filter is 5 years from date of manufacture. For
extended storage, the Powered Air Turbo should be run for at least 5 minutes
once a year. For long term storage the battery should be removed from the
Powered Air Turbo. Optimal storage temperature for batteries is 15°C. The
expected shelf life (prior to use) of the battery is 6 months from date of
manufacture. The original packaging is suitable for transporting the product
throughout the European Union.
