CartiCare brace: 1/4" molded, 1/8" Neoprene and 1/16"
Neoprene.
Any combination of pads can be used to achieve a more
comfortable fit and alleviate pressure at the joint. When using
the molded pads, the larger of the two pads should be placed on
the opposite side of the affected area.
1 Remove gel pads and replace them with the desired pads
[Figure 7].
2 If desired, cover pads with provided covers [Figure 8].
Flexion/Extension Stops
The OAsys CartiCare™ knee brace provides range of motion
(ROM) control, from full ROM to "lockout" (i.e., no flexion
allowed). The amount of flexion and extension can be adjusted
by changing the size of the flexion and extension stops.
Changing stops should be done under the advice of your
healthcare provider. If you change the stop on one hinge, you
MUST change the stop to the same size on the opposite hinge.
EXTENSION STOP SIZES: 10°°, 20°, 30°, 40°, Lockout (full ext)
FLEXION STOP SIZES: 45°, 60°, 75°, 90°
To adjust flexion and extension stops:
1 Remove screw securing stop cover. Note EXT and FLX
markings on side of stop cover indicating placement of
extension and flexion stops [Figure 9].
2 Lift stop cover and insert desired extension stop into top half
of groove [Figure 10].
3 Make sure notch in extension stop faces towards metal
bumper located in middle of groove [Figure 11].
4 Insert desired flexion stop into lower half of groove with notch
facing towards metal bumper [Figure 12].
5 Close stop cover and replace screw.
Use & Care
The OAsys CartiCare knee brace has been designed to last.
However, as with any product, its longevity will be affected by
how frequently the brace is used, and by the quality of care the
brace receives. By following the simple guidelines below, you
can insure that you will get maximum usage from your OAsys
CartiCare brace:
n
Your straps, condyle pads and condyle covers are washable
and should be cleaned periodically with a mild detergent. Hand
wash and line dry for best results. Automatic washer and dryer
not recommended.
n
If you will be using the brace in salt water, be sure to rinse the
brace and the straps with fresh water after each use to remove
any salt or debris that might remain.
n
Always use an oversleeve when participating in water sports to
insure that straps will remain firmly attached in high speed falls.
n
Keep brace frame clean by periodically washing it with a mild
detergent and rinsing with clear water.
n
Keep the hinge mechanism clean by rinsing away dirt, sand or
debris with fresh water. Lubricate hinges with a silicone or dry
graphite spray lubricant to keep them moving freely and quietly.
DO NOT use oil based lubricants (i.e., WD40™), as the oil
attracts dirt to the hinge mechanism.
