Operation

Important! LGB turnouts are designed for the wheels
on LGB locomotives and cars. If you use other makes of
locomotives and/or cars, they may derail when running
through LGB turnouts.

Manual Turnouts

LGB manual turnouts come from the factory with a ma-
nually activated mechanism (Fig. 1). This mechanism can
be mounted on the right or the left side of the turnout (b).
It is fastened to the ties with two screws.
Move the spring-loaded lever (a) on the turnout mecha-
nism in order to set the turnout.
Notes
• You can convert any manual turnout into an electric
turnout by replacing the manual mechanism with a
12010 electric mechanism.
• LGB manual turnouts are spring turnouts. This means
that a train entering a turnout „from behind" from the
„branch" side for example, although that turnout is
set for the „straight" side, will „force open" the turn-
out. After the train has passed through the turnout,
the switch rails will return to their original setting.
Attention must be paid however to the spring tension
for the turnout mechanism: Under certain circumstan-
ces, you may need additional weight in lightweight
6
cars so that they do not derail. Dirt can affect reliable
return of the switch rails to their original setting.
We therefore recommend setting the turnout for the
correct direction in the interests of reliable operation,
even if the train is entering the turnout „from behind".

Maintenance

LGB turnouts require a little maintenance now and then,
above all when used outdoors:
• Keep the turnouts free of dirt, leaves, pebbles, and
stones, etc. to ensure trouble-free operation.
• LGB turnout mechanisms are not to be greased.
• LGB turnout mechanisms should never stand in water.
Install the mechanisms so that water flows away and
does not collect near them.
• In the winter, cover all LGB mechanisms mounted
outdoors.
