OPERATION OF THE TESTER
YT-8310
Testing of an accumulator
Before work may commence, make sure the arrow indicates „0". If not, adjust the indication, using the knob under the indicator.
Connect the terminals of the tester to the terminals of the accumulator; make sure the terminal of the tester marked red is connec-
ted to the terminal of the accumulator marked with a „+" and the terminal of the tester marked black is connected to the terminal
of the accumulator marked with a „-".
Check the position of the arrow; the actual voltage of the accumulator is indicated.
If the arrow is within the green area, the voltage of the accumulator is correct.
The yellow area indicates a partially discharged accumulator, which must be charged before a test under load is conducted.
The red area indicates an excessively discharged or damaged accumulator. In case of a damage of the accumulator, it may be
necessary to replace it with a new one.
Testing of an accumulator under load
Attention! During the first test under load, a small quantity of smoke may appear from the ventilating holes of the tester. This is a
normal situation, consisting in evaporation of the factory preservative of the load at a high temperature.
Connect the tester as in the case of testing of an accumulator.
Turn the load switch on, which will cause a 100 A current to flow through the load.
Attention! The switch should be held for not more than 10 sec. Once the switch is released, the load is immediately disconnected.
If the switch were held longer, the load temperature may increase excessively, which may lead to burns or even a fire, and will
cause irreversible damage of the tester. After each test, wait for five minutes before another test is conducted, so that the tester
cools down.
Observe the arrow while the load is on. If the arrow is in the green area, the accumulator is loaded to its full capacity. in case of
the most popular 12 V accumulators the green area of the scale is arranged in steps, depending on the cold cranking current
of the accumulator (200 - 1000 A). The parameter of the cold cranking current (CCA) is specified in the documentation of the
accumulator.
If the arrow is outside the green area, but it does not drop towards the lowest value of the scale, the accumulator is not loaded to
its full capacity. It is then required to check the capacity of the accumulator using other methods, e.g. checking the density of the
electrolyte with an aerometer.
If the arrow drops towards the lowest value of the scale, it may be necessary to replace the accumulator with a new one.
Testing of the charging of the accumulator
ATTENTION! When the engine is operating, the load switch must not be turned on.
Connect the tester as in the case of testing of an accumulator.
Start the engine and wait until it has reached the normal working temperature.
Maintain the rotation of the engine within the range of 1200 – 1500 rpm.
Check the indication; if the arrow is within the green area, the charging system is working properly.
The arrow in the red area means an incorrect operation of the charging system. It may lead to a situation when the accumulator
will not reach its nominal capacity.

Testing of the accumulator
Connect the terminals of the tester to the terminals of the accumulator; make sure terminal of the tester marked red is connected

the accumulator marked with a „-".
The display indicates the actual voltage of the accumulator and one of the diodes next to the display will go on.
The green „OK" diode means the voltage of the accumulator is correct.
The yellow „WEAK" diode indicated a partially discharged accumulator, which should be charged before the test under load.
The red „BAD" diode indicates an excessively discharged or damaged accumulator. In case of a damage of the accumulator, it
may be necessary to replace it with a new one.

Connect the tester as in the case of testing of an accumulator.
Press and release the load switch, which will cause a 100 A current to flow through the load for 10 sec.
If when the load is on the green „OK" diode is lit, the accumulator is loaded to its full capacity. Write down the displayed voltage
value.
If the yellow „WEAK" diode is lit, but the voltage value shown by the indicator is constant, the accumulator is not loaded to its
full capacity. It is then required to check the capacity of the accumulator using other methods, e.g. checking the density of the
