plastic and not metal (as are the filler necks) there was no need for a metal pressure cap. With these caps,
the same precautions should still be taken when removed, because the bottles are pressurized.
THE SAFETY TYPE (ST)
This specific radiator cap has a special feature that ensures the relief of the dangerous steam pressure
before the removal of the cap and is available in both the vented and non-vented vacuum valve design. It is
built in such a way that the lever mechanism interlocks with the filler neck, preventing removal of the caps
until the lever is lifted. By lifting the lever, the pressure valve is lifted off the lower sealing seat, thus reliev-
ing the pressure. This special design allows the flow to be regulated by the manufacturer's original overflow
tube design.
Note: Even with this type of cap, precautions should be followed during removal to prevent potential injury.
OPERATING INSTRUCTIONS OF THE PRESSURE TESTER
1. Remove the radiator cap cautiously. For safety type caps (ST), lift the lever until the pressure is released.
Make sure the cap pressure (marked on the cap), is the recommended pressure of the original equipment
cap.
2. Choose the right adapter for the cap being tested. Make sure seating surfaces of both the adapter and the
cap are clean. If testing a safety type cap (ST), make sure the lever is up.
3. To attach the adapter to the tester head, you must first make sure the pressure valve is compressed, to
make the engagement easier. This can be done by rotating the pressure valve release handle (located on top
of the tester head) clockwise until it is parallel to the tester head handle. Now attach the adapter by rotating
it until the locking ears contact the stops on the adapter cams.
4. If testing a new cap, wet the rubber gasket.
Note: Because in new caps the gasket is not yet "worn in", it might take a few tries before achieving a proper
seal. During use in the car, the gasket will soften and develop satisfactory seating on the filler neck.
5. Apply pressure to the adapter as shown on Page 8.
6. If testing a safety type cap (ST), lower the lever at this point.
7. Release the pressure valve by rotating the pressure valve release handle clockwise. This seals the tester
