other than those we recommend), you can reverse it by
swapping over any two of the three motor wires.
Disconnect the battery from the speed controller first, and
only then switch the transmitter off.
Decals
Note: cut out each decal along its outside edges.
Figs. 49 and 50
Wing decals
- Lay the bottom decals on the underside of the wing as
shown.
- Mark the position of the aileron servo and cut the decal in
two at this point – see arrow.
- Mark the position of the aileron servo recess on the outer
part of the decal, and cut it out.
- Apply the decal to the underside of the wing.
Fig. 51
- Apply the appropriate decal to the top surface of the
wing.
Fig. 52
- Cut out the fuselage decals and apply them in the arran-
gement shown.
Fig. 53
- Cut an opening for the rudder servo in the right-hand
decal at the tail end, as described for the wing – see
arrow.
Fig. 54
- Apply the decals to the tailplane as shown.
Ballasting the glider
Note: we do not recommend adding ballast to the electric-
powered version of the Parabolic.
The model must be test-flown before ballast is added.
Assembly and operating instructions
Parabolic KIT
Fig. 55
- Additional ballast can be fitted to the model for slope-
soaring, in the form of five sheets of rolled lead weighing
about 240 g.
- Select the number of lead sheets required, and wrap them
in insulating tape.
Figs. 56 and 57
- Slide the bundle of lead sheet into the well in the fusela-
ge, and secure it so that it cannot possibly shift.
- Check the Centre of Gravity again.
- When the ballast is in place, the model will be slightly
nose-heavy; you can correct this by removing some of the
nose ballast.
Fig. 58
- Install the receiving system components again.
The model is now ready for flying, as soon as you have
recharged the flight battery.
Test-flying, flying notes
- Please read the sections entitled "Routine pre-flight
checks" and "Flying the model" in the Safety Notes
before attempting to fly the model for the first time.
- For your first few flights please wait for a day with no
more than a gentle breeze.
- A good flying site consists of a large, flat, open grassy
field, devoid of trees, fences, high-tension overhead
cables etc.
- Repeat the check of the working systems.
- The Parabolic is designed for hand-launching; ask an
experienced friend to do the honours for you. He should
be capable of giving the model a reasonably strong, flat
launch.
- The model must be launched straight into any wind.
- With the motor running at full-throttle, give the aeroplane
6
a firm launch, directly into any breeze, with the fuselage
and wings level.
- Keep the Parabolic flying straight and level at first; don't
turn the model while it is still close to the ground.
- Adjust the control surface trims if necessary, so that the
model flies straight with a reasonable rate of climb "hands
off".
- Check the model's response to control commands; you
may need to increase or reduce the control surface travels
after the first landing.
- Check the aeroplane's stalling speed at a safe height.
- Keep the model's speed well above the stall for the lan-
ding approach.
- If you needed to adjust the trims during the test-flight,
correct the pushrod length once the model is back on the
ground, and return the transmitter trims to centre, so that
full trim travel is available to both sides of centre for sub-
sequent flights.
Flying the Parabolic as a glider
Give the model an initial hand-glide to check its basic state
of trim.
The model can either be launched using a suitable bungee
system, or hand-launched for flying at the slope.
If you are using a bungee system, take care to lay out the
launch line exactly parallel with the wind.
For slope-soaring select a slope with a steady wind blowing
straight onto the face. You may wish to add ballast if the
wind is relatively strong. Add ballast in stages to find the
optimum amount.
