SAFETY INFORMATION

READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE OPERATING
WARNING:
When using an electric unit, basic safety precautions should
always be followed to reduce the risk of fi re, electric shock and injury to persons,
including the following:

SAFETY BASICS
DO NOT rely exclusively upon the safety devices built into the unit.
DO NOT allow the unit to be used as a toy.
Please read the entire operator's manual carefully before attempting to assemble, operate or
maintain the unit.
Follow all safety instructions. Failure to do so can result in property damage or serious injury to
yourself and/or others.
Be thoroughly familiar with the controls and the proper use of the unit. Know how to stop the unit
and disengage the controls quickly.
Stay alert! Do not operate the unit when tired, ill or under the infl uence of alcohol, drugs or medication.
Never allow children to operate the unit. Never allow adults to operate the unit without proper
instruction.
Keep these instructions. Refer to them often and use them to instruct other users. If loaning
someone this unit, also loan them these instructions.
PRELIMINARY SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
Keep bystanders, especially children and pets, at least 50 feet (15 m) away. If anyone enters the
work area, stop the unit!
Keep the work area clean. Cluttered areas invite injuries. Do not start the operation until the work
area is clear and free from obstructions and there is secure footing.
Always wear appropriate eye and ear protection when operating this unit. Wear safety goggles, or
safety glasses with side shields, that are marked as meeting ANSI Z87.1-1989 standards. Failure
to do so could result in serious eye injury caused by thrown objects. If the operation is dusty, wear
a facemask or dust mask.
Dress appropriately. Wear non-slip protective gloves and boots. Do not wear loose clothing,
jewelry, short pants, sandals or go barefoot. Secure hair above shoulder level to prevent
entanglement in moving parts.
Only use the unit in daylight or good artifi cial light.
Only use the unit for the purpose intended.
BLOWER SPECIFIC SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
DO NOT insert anything into the air openings, blower tube or nozzle.
DO NOT operate the unit if any of the air openings, blower tube or nozzle are blocked.
DO NOT use the unit for spreading chemicals, fertilizer or any other substance that may contain
toxic materials.
DO NOT use the unit to spray liquids, especially fl ammable liquids.
During operation, never point the unit in the direction of people, pets or windows. Always direct
blowing debris away from people, pets and windows.
Keep the air openings free from dust, lint, hair and anything else that may reduce airfl ow.
Inspect the work area before using the unit. Remove any hard and/or sharp objects, such as glass,
wire, etc. If blown, such objects could cause property damage or injury to the operator or bystanders.
Use extra caution when blowing debris near solid objects, such trees, automobiles, walls, fences,
etc. When possible, blow away from such objects, not toward them.
Take care when working near valuable plants. The force of the blown air could damage tender plants.
OTHER SAFETY PRECAUTIONS
DO NOT handle the unit with wet hands.
DO NOT over reach.
DO NOT operate the unit on unstable surfaces, such as trees, ladders, slopes or rooftops. Be very
careful when using the unit on stairs.
DO NOT expose the unit to rain. Do not use the unit in damp or wet locations or conditions.
DO NOT operate the unit on wet surfaces.
DO NOT use the unit in the presence of fl ammable liquids or gases.
DO NOT operate a unit that is damaged, improperly adjusted or not completely and securely
assembled. Be sure that the unit stops when the switch is set to OFF. Do not use the unit if the
switch does not turn the unit on and off properly.
DO NOT attempt operations beyond the operator's capacity or experience.
Grip the unit fi rmly when the motor is running. Use a fi rm grip with thumb and fi ngers encircling
the handle.
Keep hair, loose clothing, fi ngers and all other body parts away from openings and moving parts.
Keep proper footing and balance at all times.
To reduce the risk of electric shock, avoid body contact with grounded conductors, such as metal
pipes or wire fences.
Always stop the motor when operation is delayed, before setting down the unit or when walking
from one location to another. Make sure the unit comes to a complete stop.
To avoid accidental starting, never carry the unit with fi ngers on the switch.
Always make sure the switch is in the OFF position before installing or removing the battery.
Always carry the unit by the handle with the battery removed and fi nger off the switch.
This unit is intended for infrequent use by homeowners. It is not intended for prolonged use.
BATTERY PACK AND CHARGER SAFETY
DO NOT probe the charger with conductive material. The charging terminals hold 120 V.
DO NOT allow small metal items or material such as steel wool, aluminum foil or other foreign
particles into the charger cavity.
DO NOT touch the uninsulated part of the output connector or an uninsulated battery terminal.
DO NOT insert the battery into the charger if the battery pack is cracked or damaged.
DO NOT use this battery charger outdoors and do not expose it to wet or damp conditions.
DO NOT allow the battery pack or charger to overheat. If they are warm, allow them to cool down.
Recharge only at room temperature; 32 and 104˚ F (0 and 40˚ C). Keep the charger in a cool and
dry area. Do not place the battery pack in the sun or in a warm environment.
DO NOT cover the ventilation slots on the charger. Do not place charger on a soft surface. Keep
the ventilation slots of the charger clean and clear of dirt and debris.
DO NOT connect two chargers together.
DO NOT place the charger where the power cord might be stepped on, tripped over, or subjected
to damage.
DO NOT disassemble the battery.
DO NOT reverse the positive terminal and the negative terminal of the battery.
DO NOT connect the positive terminal and the negative terminal of the battery to each other with
any metal objects.
DO NOT knock, strike, step on the battery.
DO NOT solder the battery or pierce the battery with nails or other sharp tools.
DO NOT allow gasoline, oils, petroleum-based products, etc. to come into contact with plastic
parts. These substances contain chemicals that can damage, weaken, or destroy plastic.
When the battery is not installed in the unit, keep it away from paper clips, coins, keys, nails,
screws or other metal objects that could make a connection from one terminal to another.
Shorting the battery terminals together may cause sparks, burns or a fi re.
A battery-operated tool with integral batteries or a separate battery pack must be recharged only
with the specifi ed charger for the battery. Charge only the TB20V 20V Lithium Ion battery pack
using the TBCHG Troy-Bilt battery charger. Use a battery-operated tool only with specifi c battery
pack. Use of any other batteries may create a risk of fi re.
Unplug the charger before cleaning and when not in use.
