7 Propeller

Design of the propeller and propeller aperture are very impor-
tant for the cruising characteristics of the vessel. It is especially
important for a vessel with electrical propulsion that the pro-
peller size is selected correctly.
Consult table 1 at page 60 for selecting the correct propeller.
When running forward, the electric motor shaft must turn to the
right, when viewed from the back.,
Fit only a 'R H ' propeller!

8 Cooling

In order to obtain the best possible efficiency, both the electric
motor and the regulator are water cooled. With electric propul-
sion, the efficiency is affected to an important extent by the tem-
perature of motor and regulator, efficiency is increased at lower
temperatures.

The cooling system is designed as a 'direct cooling system'; the
raw water is pumped directly around the motor and along the
regulator.
N.B.: When a hybrid installation is installed each engine (elec-
tric motor and diesel engine) must have its own individual
cooling water supply.

In order to protect the water pump from dirt particles, the water
is sucked in via a skin fitting fitted with a water scoop and a
cooling water filter. For this filter, we recommend fitting a Vetus
Electric Propulsion EP2200, EP2200H

type 140 filter. A sea cock must be fitted to the skin fitting.
N.B.: The skin fitting, sea cock and cooling water filter are not
supplied as standard.
When choosing a position for the water inlet, take the following
into account:

The water inlet must be in a place where a continuous supply of
water is available under all circumstances. Close to the bow,
where turbulence can occur at higher speeds, is a less suitable
place. The inlet must also remain under water when the vessel
rolls. If air is sucked in instead of water, insufficient cooling as
well as damage to the water pump impeller is a consequence of
dry running.
Install always a sea cock to the skin fitting!
Locate the skin fitting in a place where the sea cock is easily
accessible for opening and closing.

Install the skin fitting with the inlet slots facing aft.
Apply a sealant when installing the skin fitting.
