Install the water strainer in an easy accessible place above the
water line. Fit the water filter against a vertical bulkhead.
The water pump capacity depends on the suction head and the
total head.
With a higher suction head and/or delivery height, the capacity
of the water pump is reduced. So take this into account when
installing.
Position the sea cock in an easily accessible place, so that you
can reach it to open and close.
A second skin fiiting in the hull is required for the water outlet,
to discharge the cooling water.
Position this water outlet preferably under the waterline too, and
fit it with a sea cock.
If the water outlet is positioned above the waterline, it will create
an annoying noise, that will not be disguised by the engine
noise, as this is an electric motor!
A sea cock is not necessary if the water outlet is above the
waterline.

A branch can be made in the cooling water supply for lubricat-
ing and cooling the propeller shaft (shaft seal and a rubber
outer bearing).
Use only flexible hose with an internal diameter of 16 mm (
for the connection of skin fiting to water strainer, water strainer
to motor and motor to skin fitting.
Keep the hoses as short as possible and ensure that there are
as few bends as possible.
Use only water and/or soap, so no grease or oil based prod-
ucts, to ease the fitting of hoses to hose connections.
Fit each hose connection with 2, stainless steel, hose clamps.
After launching
Immediately after launching, check all connections for leaks. Air
bleeding is not necessary. As soon as the motor starts running,
the pump will suck in water and fill the cooling system up with
water.

8.1 Keel cooling

If required, 'keel cooling' can be used.
With keel cooling, a coolant fluid circulates through a closed
circuit driven by a pump. A keel cooler is fitted in this circuit
which acts as a heat exchanger. This keel cooler can be placed
against the bottom of the hull, or fitted as an integral part of the
bottom of a steel hull.
As no external water is pumped through the cooling system,
this system is often used on vessels which are used in shallow
or seriously polluted water.

A keel cooler should have a capacity of at least 700 Watts.
A stainless steel tube, with a diameter of 16 to 25 mm (
and wall-thickness of 1 to 1.5 mm (
least 1 metre (3' 4") is sufficient.
Install an expansion tank with an 'open' filler cap.
The cooling system can be filled via the 'unpressurised' expan-
sion tank, which will also accommodate coolant fluid expan-
sion.
A tank with a capacity of 0.5 litres (1 pint) is sufficient. Fill to a
maximum of halfway up the tank, so that an expansion volume
1
of 0.25 litres (
pint) remains.

Preferably fill the keel cooling system with a coolant fluid or use

tap water.
Allow the motor to run slowly while filling, the cooling system is
then automatically air-bled.
