Important fitting notes
Paint the cover for the recess in the rear bumper (H) the same colour as the bumper, accord-
ing to the paint manufacturer's instructions. When carrying out painting work, health and
safety principles must to be observed.
In order to correctly bond the frame to the surface of the rear bumper, the ambient tem-
perature, vehicle temperature and temperature of the component to be bonded should be
between 18 and 30 °C during the entire fitting procedure. Protect the components from direct
sunlight.
Caution. During fitting, ensure the work area is adequately ventilated
– the cleaning agents contain dangerous fumes.
Mounting procedure
Place the vehicle on the arm of the workshop lifting platform.
The individual components are removed and refitted according to the instructions in the
ŠKODA repair manual.
Remove the rear bumper (and mud flaps if fitted), the bumper reinforcement bar and, if re-
quired, the foam strut from below the bumper (depending on the equipment specification).
Caution. After removing the bumper reinforcement bar, apply a
corrosion protection agent to the area where the bumper reinforce-
ment bar and body panels touch. The points with zinc-plated sheet
metal where a corrosion protection agent has not been applied must
be treated with two coats (at least 25 microns) of corrosion protec-
tion filler spray (SprayMax 1K Acrylic Filler). Once the filler has been
left to dry at a temperature of approx. 20 °C for 20 minutes, apply the
Multi-Wax wax preservative spray (Henkel). Re-insert the nuts that
were unscrewed from the bumper reinforcement bar after the body
panel has been treated with the corrosion protection agent (fig. 13).
