ENG ORIGINAL INSTRUCTIONS
with the ladder, e.g. with pedestrians, vehicles or
doors. Identify any electrical risks in the work area,
such as overhead lines or other exposed electrical
equipment; this ladder does not offer insulation or
protection from electrical hazards. The ladder shall
stand on its feet, not on the rungs or steps. The ladder
shall not be positioned on slippery surfaces (such
as ice, shiny surfaces or significantly contaminated
solid surfaces) unless additional effective measures
are taken to prevent the ladder slipping or ensuring
contaminated surfaces are sufficiently clean. The
locking mechanisms for all the extended rung
sections shall be locked before using the ladder.
USING THE LADDER.
Do not exceed the maximum total load for the type of
ladder. Do not overreach; user should keep their belt
buckle (navel) inside the stiles and both feet: step/
rung throughout the task. Do not step off a leaning
ladder at a higher level without additional security,
such as tying off or suitable stability device. Do
not use this ladder for access to another level. Do
not stand on the top three steps/rungs of a leaning
ladder. Ladders should only be used for light work
of short duration. Use non-conductive ladders for
unavoidable live electrical work. Do not use the ladder
outside in adverse weather conditions, such as strong
wind. Take precautions against children playing on
the ladder. Face the ladder when ascending and
descending. Keep a secure grip on the ladder when
ascending and descending. Do not use the ladder
as a bridge. Do not spend long periods on a ladder
without regular breaks (tiredness is a risk). Leaning
ladders used for access to a higher level should be
extended at least 1 meter above the landing point.
Equipment carried while using the ladder should be
light and easy to handle. Avoid work that imposes a
sideways load on standing ladders, such as side-on
drilling through solid materials (e.g. brick or concrete).
Maintain a handhold whilst working from a ladder
or take additional safety precautions if you cannot.
Never erect or use the ladder upside down. The
base should always sit firmly on the ground. Do not
leave an extended ladder unattended. Do not place
tools or other objects on the rungs and do not hang
anything on the ladder. Do not slide down the stiles
of the ladder. Climb and descend with deliberate
movements. Always maintain 3 points of contact with
the ladder at all times e.g. two feet on the same rung
and a hand on the stiles. Please do not climb higher
than the last metre of the ladder. Please put the
hands around the stile when bringing the ladder from
extended to storage position. Do not step off the side
of the ladder. Take care when closing the ladder to
not catch fingers, clothing or hair in the mechanism.
REPAIR, MAINTENANCE AND STORAGE.
Repairs and maintenance shall be carried out by a
competent person and be in accordance producer's
instructions. Ladders should be stored in accordance
with the producer's instructions. Fully collapse
the ladder, closing all rungs, and secure before
storage or handling. Clean the ladder with a suitable
proprietary household cleaner and a soft dry cloth.
Dry all parts thoroughly before storing the ladder.
Store the ladder indoors in a dry environment. Do
not rest other objects on the ladder. Store the ladder
the correct way up; the base should always sit on
the ground.
REASONS FOR ACCIDENTS.
The following list of hazards and examples of their
causes, which is not exhaustive, are common
reasons for accidents encountered when using
ladders and are the basis on which the information
in this standard has been developed:. LOSS OF
STABILITY. Incorrect positioning of the ladder (such
as incorrect angle for leaning ladder or not fully
opening a standing ladder). Slide outwards at the
bottom (such as bottom of the ladders sliding away
from the wall). Side slip, falling sideways and top flip
(such as overreaching or fragile top contact surface).
Condition of the ladder (such as missing anti-slip
feet). Stepping off an unsecured ladder at height.
Ground conditions (such as unstable soft ground,
sloping ground, slippery surfaces or contaminated
solid surfaces). Adverse weather conditions (such as
windy condotions). Collision with the ladder (such as
with vehicle or door). Incorrect choice of ladder (such
as too short, unsuitable task). FROM HANDLING.
Transferring the ladder to the work position.
Erecting and dismantling the ladder. Carrying items
up the ladder. SLIP TRIP AND FALL OF USER.
Inappropriate footwear. Contaminated rungs or
steps. Unsafe user practices (such as climbing 2
rungs at time, sliding down stiles). STRUCTURAL
FAILURE OF LADDER. Condition of the ladder
(such as damaged stiles, wear). Overloading the
