What is the difference between cleaning and disinfecting?
When to clean and disinfect the meter and the lancing device
Cleaning is the removal of dirt from the meter
or lancing device.

Disinfecting is the removal of most, but
not all, disease-causing and other types of
microorganisms (bloodborne pathogens) from
the meter or lancing device.

Clean and disinfect the meter and/or the
lancing device to remove visible dirt or
other material on a regular basis.
•
Always clean and disinfect the meter and/
or the lancing device when there is blood
on it.
•
Clean and disinfect the meter and/or the
lancing device before allowing anyone else
to handle the meter and/or the lancing
device, for instance, if you have someone
assisting you. Do not allow anyone else to
use the lancing device.
