Invia Wound Therapy – Instructions for use
XXVII
Instructions for use
Please keep in mind that each wound is unique and must always be assessed by a qualified
medical professional who must use his or her best judgment when applying this therapy,
especially the vacuum intensity and vacuum mode must be adapted to each individu-
al patient according to his/her medical knowledge and according to the wound healing
phase. In case of doubt, please consult a Medela medical product consultant. In principle
the negative pressure should be raised slowly according to the wound healing phase and
should never cause the patient pain.
1. Inspect the kit for completeness and ensure there is no damage
to the packaging or individual items within the kit. Make sure the
dressing components are sterile.
2. Cleanse wound and periwound according to institution guidelines
or physicians' orders. Irrigate the wound thoroughly with saline,
and gently wipe any excess fluid with sterile gauze. Replace the
wound dressing at least every 24 hours if not all necrotic material
and slough cannot be removed.
3. Prep the skin up to 5 cm (2 inches) around the wound bed using
the skin sealant. Allow to dry.
4. Cut sterile wound contact layer to mimic the size and shape of
the wound bed. Cover the entire wound bed with the wound
contact layer. (see illustration A)
5. Saturate single layer of gauze with saline and place into the
wound bed.
6. Trim the drain so it is confined to the wound bed and place it
directly on top of the gauze in the wound. Do not place the drain
in a fistula tract. (see illustration B)
7. Saturate additional gauze with saline, open and fluff into the
wound to completely cover the drain and fill with gauze to skin
level. (see illustration C)
8. Cut transparent dressing 2–5 cm (1-2 inches) beyond wound
borders on each side.
9. Create an airtight seal by applying the transparent dressing star-
ting with the side opposite the tubing. Adhere the dressing firmly
to the entire wound site. When you reach the tubing, lift it up and
squeeze the dressing around the tube to create an airtight seal.
Do not place over bony prominences.
