Physical Installation
NOTE: Refer to
"Typical Installation" on page
1.
Close all water supply valves necessary to turn off the incoming water supply.
2. Carefully drain the existing plumbing system of all water.
3. Adjust existing plumbing to accommodate the addition of the
system plumbing.
4. Position the unit in a vertical orientation or a horizontal position
as long as the air bleed plug faces upwards.
•
Never allow the pump to hang unsupported from a horizon-
tal surface.
•
Never use the plumbing for pump support. Always use the
mounting bracket.
5. Install the unit in the desired location using mounting bracket and mounting screws.
"Dimensions" on page
•
Refer to
NOTE: Screws for mounting the bracket are not included with the product.
•
For ease of service, leave a clearance of 20 inches (51 cm) below the pump. This can be reduced if
the unit is installed with two plumbing unions.
6. Install inlet and outlet plumbing to the unit.
IMPORTANT: Do not over tighten connections.
NOTE: The inlet and outlet of the unit are labeled with "INLET" and "OUTLET" respectively.
NOTE: An internal check valve is provided on the discharge of the pump.
•
Use ball valves in the system to allow for a "service bypass" so the typical household can still have
incoming water if unit maintenance is required.
•
Install unions on the suction and discharge ends of the system.
•
Use PTFE tape on all threaded fittings.
•
If the optional bypass loop is used, install a check valve in the bypass.
•
Check all local plumbing codes to ensure that all requirements pertaining to back flow prevention
are met.
7.
Install a pressure gauge on both the inlet and outlet pipes.
8. Add a small, external, bladder-type pressure tank (2 gal/8 L or smaller).
NOTE: The tank allows for small volumes of water to be used without starting the unit. The tank adds a
pressure buffer to the system in order to absorb undesired pressure spikes (water hammer) or pressure
fluctuations.
•
Locate the tank within 5 feet (1.5 m) of the pump discharge downstream from the pump.
•
Ensure there is no control/check valve between the pressure tank and the unit.
