Installation and Maintenance Instructions
ASCO™ Series 290-390 Valves with a Signaling Box IO-Link
Caution
In case of harsh environment with dust and or water projection,
exhaust ports of the signaling box and valve shall be ducted.
To avoid damage due to dirt or humidity penetration ensure
that the cable gland and the cover are tight with all the seals in
place. The device must be operated only with its cover closed.
Make sure the unused orifice ( "I", "III", "A") is not sealed with
a plug. This orifice must remain open.
Note:
The cable length between the IO-Link
must not exceed 20 m.
Electrical Connection: IO-Link
M12 Code A per IEC 61076-2-101
a. For electrical connection using standard M12 connector
respect wiring diagram, device view ( II, "1").
b. Connect the device to earth with M4 screw ( II, "2").

Pneumatic Connection
Connection: G 1/8 or NPT 1/8 at pressure inlet.
For version to be equipped with an external pilot (no internal
pilot) connect appropriate pilot to the pressure inlet port of the
signaling box. ( III,"7")
The signaling box is supplied with pneumatic accessories to
connect to valve. Fittings and tubes can be replaced by user for
its specific application. ( III-IV, "8", "9", "10").
1. For NC version assemble the flexible tube "9" on the
connection (B) ( III). Tighten to the specified torque.
2. For NO Version assemble the flexible tube "9" on the
connection (C) ( III). Tighten to the specified torque.
3. Filter at Exhaust port ( IV) shall be ducted in case of harsh
environment (IP69K).
Manual opening and closing.
It is possible to manually open and close the valve during normal
operation for version with internal pilot only.
Procedure:
- Remove the cover by un-screwing by hand (V, "3").
- To switch to manual mode, simultaneously press the "Open"
button ( VI, "4") and the "Close" button ( VI, "6") until the
white LED flashes. (Led 3).
- Press the top button ( VI, "4") to open: The valve will open
completely.
Or,
Press the bottom button ( VI, "6") to close: The valve will close
completely.
Exit from the manual mode:
- To exit the manual mode, again simultaneously press buttons
( VI, "4" + "6") for 3 to 5 seconds; the disc will automatically
be restored into the setpoint position. (fully open or close)
- Close the cover with the appropriate gasket and tighten it
by hand until complete contact between the cover and the
body ( VII, "3").
Preventive maintenance
Visually inspect the signaling box once a month. Check that
there are no foreign objects inside the box and that there is
no moisture inside, that the box is correctly secured against
rotation.
Malfunctioning
In the event of failure to set the position:
- Check led status indication.
- If, during an operating cycle, the stem does not move or
moves abnormally: Check the pressures (valve and pilot),
the operation of the valve and the control system.

Product Replacement
Kit commercial code marked on unit. ( IX, XI, "14")
1. Removal of the unit to be replaced.
a. Disconnect and remove all electrical and pneumatic
supplies. ( II, III, IV)
b. Loosen screw ( III, "11" + VIII, "11") by several turns
to remove the unit from its support.
c. Remove the unit. (page 38)
( IX for NC valves or XI for NO valves and NCS)
d. Remove the support "12" from the valve.
e. NO and NCS versions, discard the spacer "13" delivered
with the new unit and do not dismantle part "13" in the
valve (XI).
2. Mounting on valve
a. Assemble the new support "12" on the valve. Tighten to
specifed torque. (IX - X)
b. Make sure that screw "11" is loosed. ( III, "11" + VIII,
4
"11")
c. Assemble the new unit onto support "12". (X/XII)
3
d. Orient pneumatic connection "8" so that it faces pilot
orifice "9" of the valve and connect tube "10". ( III, "10")
e. Fix the unit into position with screw "11"; tighten to the
specific torque. ( X/XII)
3. Connections ( II, III, IV)
Make all electrical and pneumatic connections.
4. Initialization of the new unit:
This procedure is needed to record end of travel positions
Version with internal pilot:
a. Apply electrical power and air pressure.
b. Press middle button "5" for more than 3 seconds until LED
1 (yellow) and LED 2 (green) flash to automatically start
the initialization procedure ( VI). Alternatively use the
IO-Link
communication to send the System Command
®
"Start Auto Initialization" ( Index 2 : Value 163 ).
c. Release the button and leave the device to automatically
run the initialization cycle ( pressurizing and then
exhausting the actuator completely).
d. After the initialization cycle is completed successfully
the LEDs stop flashing and the valve stops in the preset
setpoint position. If there is no setpoint, the pilot valve
exhausts the pressure and the main valve goes to its rest
position, open or closed. If there is an error you can find an
error code in the status byte in the IO-Link
e. Close the cover with the appropriate gasket and tighten
it by hand until complete contact between the cover and
the body (VII).
Version without internal pilot:
a. Apply electrical power. Prepare the external pilot valve to
be able to switch the pilot pressure.
b. Press middle button "5" for more than 3 seconds until LED
1 (yellow) and LED 2 (green) flash to automatically start
the initialization procedure (VI). Alternatively use the
IO-Link
communication to send the System Command
®
"Start Auto Initialization" ( Index 2 : Value 163 ).
c. Release the button. The device is now waiting to run the
initialization cycle. Use the your external pilot valve to
pressurize and then exhaust the actuator completely. If
no pressure change is detected, there is a 15s timeout,
which aborts the initialization.
d. After the initialization cycle is completed successfully the
LEDs stop flashing and signal the current position of the
valve. If there is an error you can find an error code in the
status byte in the IO-Link
e. Close the cover with the appropriate gasket and tighten
it by hand until complete contact between the cover and
the body (VII).
