Using the UPX-DP10 System
Only
This is the simplest method for using this system. The
built-in strobe has a large luminous area and the
surface treatment disperses light. The light from the
strobe is soft and does not cause intense reflections
from the subject, minimizing unnatural bright spots.
However, the pictures will not look as natural as those
taken with the assistance of an external strobe.
In this mode, it is not possible to eliminate shadows on
the subject. However, the shadows will be soft and will
not be very disturbing.
H/S mode
Select the H/S mode according to the
print size.
Flash mode
is recommended.
EXPOSURE
±0 is recommended. When the subject
has unnatural bright spots, and these
show up on the picture, -0.25 EV (a little
underexposure) is recommended. When
the subject is suntanned, +0.25 EV (a
little overexposure) is recommended.
APERTURE
PROG is recommended.
WHITE BALANCE
AUTO is recommended.

Using a Shadow-Clearing Strobe

This is the most often recommended way to use the
system. The built-in strobe has a large luminous area
and the surface treatment disperses light. The light
from the strobe is soft and does not cause intense
reflections from the subject, minimizing unnatural
bright spots. However, the pictures will not look as
natural as those taken with the assistance of an external
strobe.
Using a shadow-clearing strobe results in a more
natural picture. Place a background sheet about 1 m
from the subject, and place the shadow-clearing strobe
immediately behind the subject. The shadow-clearing
strobe not only clears the shadows but also gives an
appropriate amount of light to the background sheet to
improve the S/N ratio in the background of the
photographed picture. Carefully adjust the settings so
that the light reaches as wide an area as possible.
When the shadow-clearing strobe is too strong, the
shadow-clearing light is deflected around the subject
and degrades the picture quality. In that case, it is
recommended that you cover the strobe with a diffuser.
It is recommended that you use a shadow-clearing
strobe that supports a synchronization cord. When the
shadow-clearing strobe is connected using a
synchronization cord, the shooting conditions are the
same as when using the UPX-DP10 system only.
When using a slave-type shadow-clearing strobe, use
the E flash modes. In E flash modes, the power of
the built-in strobe is fixed regardless of the distance
between the subject and the lens; moving the camera
changes the exposure. Make sure that the camera is at
the same position. Mark the appropriate camera
position in advance, for example. To adjust the
framing of the subject, use the zooming function. The
automatic exposure compensation feature compensates
for the change in the f value due to the zooming.
