Chapter 36: Trunking System Controls
Chapter 36
Trunking System Controls
This chapter explains the trunking system control features in your radio.
36.1
Operating in Failsoft System
The failsoft system ensures continuous radio communication during a trunked system failure. When the radio
goes into failsoft operation, it automatically switches to a failsoft channel which allows your radio to transmit
and receive in conventional operation on a predetermined frequency.
When in failsoft operation, the radio emits a medium-pitched tone and the display shows Failsoft. When
the trunking system returns to normal operation, your radio automatically leaves failsoft operation and returns
to trunked operation.
Procedure:
If you want to communicate with other talkgroups during failsoft operation, rotate the Channel Selector to
a different repeater frequency and press PTT to talk.
36.2
Imbalanced Coverage
Imbalanced coverage occurs when the radio is able to receive the control channel but is unable to transmit
back to the system. The radio generates a periodic tone and displays No Comms.
36.3
Out-of-Range Radio
Your radio can no longer lock onto a control channel when out-of-range from the system.
When out-of-range, your radio shows the following indications:
●
A tone sounds.
●
The display shows the currently selected zone or channel combination, and out-of-range notification.
Your radio remains in this out-of-range condition until it locks onto a control channel or failsoft channel, or if it
is turned off.
36.3.1
Out of Range Hold-Off Timer
When your radio is out of range, the Out of Range Hold-Off Timer delays the visual indication and audible
alert.
If the radio is still out of range after the Out of Range Hold-Off Timer expires, the radio turns on its visual
indication and audible alert.
NOTE: In out of range state, the radio LED flashes the color yellow.
