Air filter maintenance
A dirty air filter will restrict air flow to the carburettor. To prevent carburettor malfunction, maintain the air
filter regularly. Check it more frequently if you operate the generator in extremely dusty areas.
WARNING: Using petrol or flammable solvents to clean the air cleaner can cause a fire or explosion.
Use only soapy water or non-flammable solvent.
NOTICE: Never operate the generator without the air filter. It will cause rapid wear of the engine.
1. Unhook the air cleaner cover, remove the air cleaner cover and remove the element.
2. Wash the element in a solution of household detergent and warm water and then rinse it thoroughly or
wash it with a non-flammable or high flash point solvent. Allow the item to dry completely.
3. Dip the item in clean engine oil and shake to remove excess oil. The engine will smoke on initial start-up
if too much oil remains in the element.
Spark plug maintenance
Suggested spark plugs: F5T or F6TC or F7TJC or T or other equivalent.
To ensure proper engine operation, the spark plug must have adequate gap and be free of deposits.
If the engine has been running, the exhaust will be very hot. Be careful not to come into contact with the
exhaust.
1. Remove the spark plug (Figure 1).
2. Clean any debris from around the base of the spark plug (Figure 2).
3. Check the gap between the spark plug electrodes, it should be between 0.7-0.8 mm, adjust if necessary
(Figure 3).
4. Use the socket spanner provided in the tool kit to remove the spark plug (Figure 4).

NOTICE: The spark plug must be firmly tightened. An improperly tightened spark plug can overheat and
damage the engine. Never use spark plugs that have an improper heat rating. Use only recommended or
equivalent spark plugs.
Cleaning fuel sediment cup
The sediment bowl prevents dirty water that may be present in the fuel tank from entering the
carburettor. If the engine has not been run for a long time, the sediment bowl should be cleaned.
1. Turn the fuel valve to the off position. Remove the sediment cup and O-ring.
2. Clean the sediment cup and O-ring with a non-flammable or high flash point solvent.
3. Reinstall the O-ring and sediment cup.
4. Turn the fuel valve to the ON position and check for leaks.
