To facilitate final positioning of the socket adapter, plumb lines can be drawn
in the frontal plane and sagittal plane from the hip joint pivot point during
cast removal and fitting of the test socket (see Fig. 2 and Fig. 3).
Attention!
When bending the knee joint, do not reach into the joint
mechanism – risk of injury by pinching the fingers!
3.1 Basic set-up
The prosthesis is set up in such a way that in frontal view the plumb line (a)
runs from the centre of the socket over the Adjustment Core and the centre
of the tube holder downwards. In sagittal view, the construction reference
line (b) runs from the greater trochanter (T) over the anterior upper joint axis
to the transition between the posterior third and middle third of the pros-
thetic foot, the heel height is set at approx. 5 mm (Fig. 2).
3.2 Positioning of the socket
Make a temporary mark (T and M) on the lateral side proximally and distally
in the centre of the prosthetic socket and connect the mark with a line (c)
from the upper edge of the socket to the end of the socket. The connecting
line (c) must intersect with the construction reference line in the area of the
socket entry plane (Fig. 3). The basic setting of the socket flexion is normally
5°, whereby the individual situation (for example hip joint contracture) must
be taken into account.
Attention!
If residual limb flexion is not taken into account, the prosthesis
wearer may not be able to actively extend the knee joint.
This can lead to malfunctions or reduced stability.
Shifting the shaft posteriorly increases the dynamics and reduces the stability.
Shifting the shaft anteriorly increases the stability and reduces the dynamics.
The connection between the prosthetic socket and the knee joint must be
made in such a way that the knee joint is rotated outwards by about 5°.
Abduction and adduction can be performed using the adjustment screws
on the socket adapter and prosthetic foot. The fine adjustment takes place
during the dynamic fitting.
