4.2 Adjustment of the swing phase
The combination of axial friction and the extension spring of the knee joint
is used to adjust the extension and flexion movement of the knee during the
swing phase. When delivered, the KINEGEN.wave is set so that the extension
movement of the knee joint is not impeded. The extension assist supports
the extension of the knee joint and counteracts flexion. Optimal adjustment
of the swing phase enables the prosthesis wearer to have a harmonious gait
pattern and an energy-efficient gait. The swing phase behaviour and thus
the gait pattern is influenced, among other things, by the lower leg length,
the weight of the foot/shoe and the activity of the user.
The sequence for adjusting the swing phase when delivered is the following
(Fig. 4).
1. By turning screw A clockwise, the axle friction and thus the resistance to
movement is increased. To reduce the heel lift again, turn the adjustment
screw A anticlockwise.
2. By turning adjustment screw C, the force of the extension assist is adjusted
to synchronise the swing motion of the prosthesis to that of the healthy
side. To allow a faster forward swinging motion, turn adjustment screw C
clockwise. After each readjustment or adjustment, the axle friction must be
readjusted as described in point 1.
Attention!
If the strength of the standard spring for extension assist is not
sufficient, it can be replaced with a 3A900/E1 spring, as described
in 3.4.
