Engine start test
This test aims at checking the capacity of the system, of generating high-pressure
at engine start.
Test procedures
• Install the gauge in the system as explained in the installation chapter.
• Totally close gauge's valve.
• Activate the ignition key, start the engine and hold the key for 4 seconds.
• Do not accelerate the vehicle when the register is closed. Risk of damage to
the vehicle system and damage to the manometer, causing a loss of warranty.
• As the TM 558 valve is closed, the engine shall not run. If it shows signs of
operation, that shall indicated that the valve is not completely closed. For a
correct accomplishment of this test, the engine must not run.
• After accomplishing the start, check the maximum pressure reached by the
TM 558 gauge.
Analysis of pressure
The high-pressure pump must generate at least 150 to 200 Bar of pressure at the
start for the engine to run in the Common Rail System, or to show signs of
operation, in order to activate the injectors. If this pressure is not reached during
the test, the high-pressure pump might have problems, because the measured
pressure must be higher than 150 to 200 Bar.
