Clean the orthosis regularly:
1) Remove the straps from the orthosis.
2) Fasten all hook-and-loop closures.
3) Hand-wash the straps and pads in warm water at 30 °C (86 °F) using neutral detergent. Rinse
thoroughly.
4) Allow to air dry. Do not expose to direct heat sources (e.g. sunlight, stove or radiator).
8 Maintenance
The manufacturer requires at least a semi-annual inspection of the product to verify functionality
and check for wear.
The wear parts of the knee joint and ankle joint are to be replaced by the maintenance sets
170Z99=1/2 (see fig. 2, item 1), 170X18 (see fig. 2, item 2) and 170X17=L/R (see fig. 2, item 3).
Pads and closures for replacement are shown in the component overview (see Page 13) (colour
code: -7 = black, -0 = skin colour).
Replacing the pads
1) Loosen the screw on the strap guide loop with tube connection by 2 turns.
2) Push the screw in until a distinct clicking is heard. Use an Allen key to push it in.
3) Unscrew the strap guide loop with tube connection.
4) Remove and replace the pads.
5) Remove the strap guide loops from the end of the support tube.
Replacing the lock
Required tools and materials: Loctite® (636K13), Allen key (2 mm), torque wrench
>
(adjustable to 0.5 Nm).
1) Remove the retaining ring from the knee axis in the orthosis knee joint.
2) Push the knee axis out to the inside.
→ The orthosis is disassembled in the orthosis knee joint.
3) Loosen the set screw of the steel cable with the Allen key (2 mm).
4) Remove the set screw and pressure ball from the orthosis ankle joint.
5) Remove the retaining ring of the lock axis.
6) Push the lock axis out to the inside.
7) Remove the lock with steel cable upwards from the orthosis knee joint and replace the lock.
8) Insert the flange bushings into the lock by hand and press them in lightly using the vice.
9) After pressing them in, finish the flange bushings with a 6H7 reamer.
10) Knot the pull cable at the lock.
INFORMATION: Note that the knot has to be at least 5 cm away from the lock.
11) Put the orthosis lower part with the strap guide loops down onto the workbench.
12) Insert the steel cable into the hole in the orthosis knee joint and push it through the base tube.
INFORMATION: Note that the steel cable comes out the back of the base tube but
before the orthosis ankle joint.
13) With one hand, pull the steel cable further out of the orthosis ankle joint and insert the lock in
the orthosis knee joint with the other hand.
INFORMATION: Verify proper fit in the bearing bushings.
14) Position the lower spring of the lock so that it does not obstruct the steel cable.
