Framework preparation
The framework should be designed in a small
anatomic shape for supporting the porcelain and
to ensure an even layering thickness of the
veneering material.
Use only cross-cut tungsten-carbide cutters to finish
the framework. The use of chip-removing tools is
recommended. Using stones invariably leads to mi-
croscopic overlaps, which in turn will lead to bubble
formation in the ceramic veneering material. This
is particularly true of soft alloys (copper-free and
palladium-free biological alloys).
After finishing with tungsten-carbide cutters, unless
otherwise recommended by the alloy manufacturer,
sandblast the metal frameworks with alumina
(100 –150 µm) at a pressure of 2 bars (non-precious
alloys: up to 4 bars and 250 µm alumina).
To avoid tensions in the Duceram Kiss veneering
porcelain, it is necessary to round off any sharp
corners and edges of the frame.
Then the frameworks are cleaned by steam or in a
clean ultrasonic bath (see fig. 1–4).

Soldering and laser-welding
For soldering and laser-welding metal frameworks,
follow the comprehensive instructions and notes of
the alloy manufacturer.

Applying the opaque
The Duceram Kiss powder opaques cover the frame-
work in a layer of uniform thickness in the basic
colour selected. Two opaque firings are recommen-
ded both for the paste and for the powder opaque.
When using alloys with a low meldint range (copper-
free and palladium-free alloys such as BiOcclus
Kiss) the first firing should be the neutral paste
instead of the first opaque. When the neutral paste
os used, the temperature for the first opaque firing is
reduced to 900 °C (if the firing time is increased by
1 min). This serves to avoid distortion of the metal
framework. The neutral paste is not suitable for
veneering non-precious frameworks.
