A WHEEL CAN EXPLODE IF:
1) the diameter of the rim is not exactly the same at the tyre's.
2) the rim or tyre are defective.
3) if the maximum recommended pressure is exceeded during bead seating.
4) the tyre is inflated to a pressure higher than the maximum recommended by the manufacturer.
5) the operator does not observe the requisite safety regulations.
IMPORTANT SAFETY RULES!
1- Only specially trained personnel are allowed to perform these operations.
2- Do not allow others to operate or be near the tyre changer.
3- Do not mount tyre on rims if you cannot check that their diameters correspond.
4- Check to make sure the rim and the tyre have the same diameter.
5- Check to make sure the rim and the tyre are not damaged.
6- Seat beads and inflate tyres with short bursts of air checking the pressure frequently on the gauge.
7- NEVER exceed 3.5 bar (50 PSI) during bead seating operation.
IMPORTANT! If a higher tyre inflation pressure is required, remove the wheel from the tyre changer and continue the inflation procedure
with the wheel inside a special protection cage (commercially available).
8- After bead seating operation, NEVER exceed the maximum inflation pressure given by the tyre manufacturer.
9- ALWAYS keep hands and entire body back from inflating tyre.
PROCEEDING AS FOLLOWS:
1) Remove the valve stem.
2) Clip the valve onto the inflator chuck making sure it is properly connected.
3) Make a last check to be certain that tyre and rim diameter correspond.
4) Check to be certain that rim and beads are sufficiently lubricated. If necessary lubricate some more.
5) Press the pedal down to start inflation.
6) Release frequently the inflating pedal to check pressure on the manometer.
Introduce more air little by little untill the correct pressure is reached.
N.B.: If you over inflate the tyre, hold the deflate button until the correct pressure is reached.
Release the button to check pressure on the manometer.
If these operations fail due to an air leak caused by the lack of a seal between the rim and the tyre, use the TIX device:
1- Turn the wheel so that the gap through which the air is escaping is on the left.
2- If the wheel is not clamped on the chuck from the inside, release it.
Adjust the clamp opening so that they locate on the inside of the rim without leaving too much play.
DANGER!!
Tyre or rim failure under pressure is hazardous and any resulting explosion can propel the
tyre upward and outward with sufficient energy to cause serious injury or death to operator or
bystander.
Though this tyre changer is equipped with a pressure limiter set at 3.5 bar (50 Psi), it is not
intended to be a safety device to contain exploding tyres, tubes, rims or bead sealing
equipment and, hence, does not eliminate the risk of and damage from any such explosion.
