7. Maintenance procedures
7.1. Cleaning the air filter (diagram F)
Never use petrol or flammable solvents for cleaning the air filter element as this could result in a fire or
explosion.
Danger
Remove the air filter cover (No. 1) by unclipping both clips (No. 2) then remove the foam element (No. 3).
Clean the foam element (No. 3) with household detergent diluted in warm water then rinse it through or wash it in non-flammable
solvent or solvent with a high flashpoint. Leave to dry fully.
Soak the element in clean motor oil and wring it out to remove excess oil. The motor will smoke when it is started for the first
time if too much oil remains in the foam.
Reinsert the air filter element and refit the cover in the opposite order to removal.
7.2. Cleaning the sediment bowl (diagrams A and C)
Switch off the fuel tap (no. 14, fig. A).
Unscrew the plug (no. 1, Fig. C) to drain the fuel.
Refit and tighten the plug (no.1, Fig. C).
Remove the sediment bowl (no. 1, Fig. E) and the seal (no. 2, Fig. C).
Wash the bowl (no. 1, Fig. C) with non-flammable solvent or solvent having a high flash point. Leave to dry fully.
Refit the seal and the bowl.
Tighten the bowl.
Open the fuel tap (no.14, Fig. A) and check that there are no leaks.
7.3. Renewing the motor oil (diagram D)
Change the oil when the engine is still warm, to ensure that drainage is rapid and complete.
Remove the filling plug-gauge (1) and the drain plug (2) and drain the oil into a suitable container.
On completion, screw up again and tighten the drain plug (2).
Fill the engine oil sump with the recommended oil, then check the level.
Put in place and tighten the filling plug-gauge (1).
Check that there is no oil leak after filling.
Wipe off any trace of oil with a clean cloth.
7.4. Cleaning the spark arrester (diagram A)
Remove the spark arrester mounting bolt (8) and detach the spark arrester from the silencer
Descale spark arrester screen using a wire brush, taking care not to damage it.
Refit the assembly in the reverse order to removal.
7.5. Cleaning the fuel filter (diagram A)
Fuel is a highly flammable substance which may combust in certain conditions. Do not smoke or bring naked
flames or sparks near to fuel.
After refitting the filter, check that there are no leaks and that the area is dry before starting the generating set.
Danger
Close fuel tap (14).
Unscrew fuel tank cap (no. 2)
Remove fuel filter (16) and remove any impurities by washing it with solvent.
Refit the fuel filter through the tank filler cap opening.
Refit the fuel tank cap.
