PHOTO 85. Using a small triangular-section file, make a lengthways groove along the centre of the strip (70) and then, using
sandpaper, round off all of the edges, as shown in the inset image. The aim here is to simulate a moulding in the form of a figure
8 with one flat side. The same operation must be carried out on five more strips of the same length.
PHOTO 86. Cut the parts to length and glue one of them onto the forward bulkhead, one onto each side of the ship, reaching as
far as the stern, and four more as shown in photo no. 90.
PHOTO 87. Cut to size the covering boards (71) and glue them onto the bulwarks of the hold.
PHOTO 88. Make up and glue into place the inside frames of the gun ports (72) on the quarter deck.
PHOTOS 89-90. Adjust the lengths and glue the covering boards and finishing pieces (73, 74, 75 & 76) for the quarter and poop
decks.
PHOTOS 91-93. Make up the davits (77). To do this, after shaping the strip, make the six holes shown in the photo. Join the
holes, two-by-two by means of an offset, made using a small file. Glue the brackets (78) to the outside of the hull. The angle of
the brackets will give you the inclination for making the offsets in the bulwark. Cut the necessary offsets into the forecastle to fit
the davits. Glue the davits and the stanchions (79) into place. Make up and fit the boards (80) and the finishes (74).
PHOTOS 94-95. Using a half-round file make the offsets shown in the photos on the parts (81 & 82). After this cut the parts to
size and sand them down.
PHOTOS 96-97. Stain the ramin wood lining strakes (57) yellow, or a similar colour. Apply colourless, satin-finish pore-filler
lacquer to the sapelli lining strakes (60). Paint the rubbing strakes, covering boards and top lining black and then glue the parts
(81 & 82) distributed as shown in the photo. Remember that, from this point on, all of the wood parts that you attach to the ship
will have to be either varnished or painted, as required.
PHOTO 98. Paint one side of the parts (84) black. Glue the parts (84) into place centred on the holes left in the part (83). Then
cut the sheet of glass to shape and glue it on.
PHOTO 99. Make sure that the comb (83) fits onto the stern of the hull. If not, using a sanding block, sand down the stern until it
does. Glue it into place and then attach the parts (86 & 87), already painted black.
PHOTO 100. Paint one side of the parts (90, 91 & 92) black and then glue them onto the part (89) and over these parts the
sheet of glass (85), which you must first cut to size.
PHOTO 101. Glue the comb stiffener (88), aligned with the comb (83), to make this assembly thicker, and then glue the part
(89) onto the part (88) and onto the stern of the hull.
PHOTO 102. Glue the parts (93) onto each side aligned with the bottom of part (89). Then glue the parts (95) to both sides, in
line with the bottom of the comb stiffener, as shown. Finally glue the parts (94) on both sides, at the vertices of part (89), as
shown in the photo.
PHOTO 103. Paint one side of the parts (96) black, bearing in mind that one must be fitted on each side of the ship, and then
glue a sheet of glass (85), cut to size, over each one.
PHOTO 104. Glue the lining strips (97) into place vertically and then sand them down until you get a smooth and uniform finish.
Glue into place the parts (96). Fit the strips (98) and the frames (99 & 100).
PHOTO 105. Make up and glue into place the strips (100, 101 & 102).
PHOTO 106-107. Paint the parts of the ship shown in the photo blue and black and then glue the parts (103 & 104) into place.
Make offsets in this lining in which to fit the windows (105). Glue the glass to the inside of the windows and fit them into place.
Paint the parts (106) black, glue the glass (85) onto them and fit the parts (106) to the ship.
ASSEMBLY PACK No. 4
PHOTO 108. Fit the roof of the quarter gallery (107) and the finishing piece (108) and then glue the columns (109) and the
handrail (110) into place. Paint all of the finishing pieces and the columns gold, as shown.
PHOTOS 109-111. Paint the parts (109, 111, 112, 113, 114, 115, 116, 117, 118, 119, 120 and 121) and glue them into place on
the stern of the ship.
PHOTO 112. Line the section of deck (122) using the planking (123) and then sand the part down and varnish it.
PHOTO 113. Glue the columns (124) into place, glue the section of deck (122) onto them and then paint the columns and the
edge of the deck red. Make up the taffrail newel posts and glue them onto the quarter deck covering boards. Also glue the
handrail into onto the newel posts.
PHOTO 114. Glue the handrail cover onto the handrail and then paint it black. Then paint the parts shown in the photo gold and
blue.
PHOTO 115. Taking great care, sand down the parts (128, 129 & 130) and then glue them into place aligned as shown in the
photo.
PHOTO 116. Sand down and soak the parts (131, 132, 133 & 134) before fitting them into place on the bow of the ship.
PHOTO 117. Glue the hawse covers, the parts (135), into place and then glue on the head-rail adornments (136). Use fast-
drying glue to attach the pieces of brass wire.
PHOTO 118. Attach the head-rails (137), the Samson posts (138) and the head-rails (139) and then glue on the head-rail
adornments (136).
PHOTO 119. Cut to size and glue on the timbers (140) and the crossbeams (141).
PHOTOS 120-121. Assemble the gratings (146), inserting some of the parts into the others until you obtain a complete rack.
Apply glue to the joints to avoid loosening. Glue the crossbeams (142, 143, 144 & 145) and paint them black. Adjust the
gratings to fit them between the crossbeams.
