IGNITION AND REGULATION

Before starting up, make sure that:
Connections to the supply line, to thermostats or pressure
switches, have been made according to the electrical diagram
of the equipment.
There is fuel oil in the tank and water in the boiler.
All the gate valves fitted on the fuel oil intake and return pipes
are open, as well as any other shut-off element on the fuel pipes.
The discharge of combustion products can take place freely
(boiler and chimney lock-gates should be open).
Make sure that the burner head enters the combustion chamber
according to the boiler manufacturer's instructions. The burner,
to meet these requirements, is equipped with a boiler mounting
flange which slides along the combustion head.
The nozzles fitted on the burner must be suitable for the
boiler capacity. If necessary, replace them with suitable ones.
In no case should the quantity of fuel delivered exceed the
maximum amount required by the boiler and the maximum
amount allowed for the burner. Remember that the combustion
head is designed for nozzles with a 45° spray angle.
For good ignition and good combustion with the 1st stage
!
only, fuel delivery must not be considerably lower than the
minimum burner output.
IGNITION:
The burner is equipped with a switch to change from the 1st to the
2nd stage.
Open the first and second stage switch to prevent activation of
the second stage.
Slightly open the air gate to allow the air flow presumed to be
necessary for operating the burner in the first stage, by operating
on the cam that limits the travel of the servomotor for the first
stage (8653/1 pagina 27 8711/1 pagina 26), set to an intermediate
position the air flow regulator on the combustion head (see
chapter "Air regulation on the combustion head").
Turn on the main switch and the start/stop switch on the burner.
With this operation the heating elements that heat up the fuel oil
turn on immediately and, at the same time, the relevant yellow
light on the burner turns on.
The pre-heater's minimum thermostat closes when the fuel
temperature reaches the value to which it is set. When the
minimum thermostat closes, if the other thermostats on the boiler
are closed, this will determine the activation of the appliance,
which will turn on the devices making up the boiler in accordance
with the established programme. The equipment turns on as
described in the chapter "Operation Description".
When the burner is operating in the first stage, adjust the air to
ensure a good combustion as described at no. 2. We recommend
keeping the air quantity at a low level when working in the first
stage output to ensure perfect ignition even in the most difficult
conditions.
After regulating the air for the first stage the burner is stopped
by disconnecting the current from the main switch, connecting
the terminals of the second-stage thermostat terminal board
between them and putting the first and second stage switch in
the second stage position.
Operate on the cam that limits the travel of the second stage
air gate servomotor, setting it to the quantity that is considered
sufficient for the fuel to burn (8653/1 pagina 27 8711/1 pagina
26).
Now the equipment is activated again and automatically turns
on, according to the program set by the programmer in the
second stage.
When the burner is working in the second stage, regulate the air
to ensure a good combustion, operating on the cam as described
in point 7. The combustion check must be carried out with special
tools. If suitable tools are not available, look at the flame colour.
We recommend adjusting the system until obtaining a smooth,
light orange colour instead of a red flame with smoke, or a white
flame with too much air. The air regulator must be in a position to
enable a carbon dioxide (CO
from 10% to a maximum of 13% with a smoke number not higher
than the one indicated in the standard (Bacharach scale). If
suitable instruments are not available, look at the flame colour.
We recommend adjusting the system until obtaining a smooth,
light orange colour instead of a red flame with smoke, or a white
flame with too much air. (See also chapter "Air regulation on the
combustion head".
Regulation of the pre-heater, minimum and regulation
thermostats (max) has been carried out by the manufacturer
at values which might not be appropriate for the specific case.
It is therefore necessary, when carrying out a final inspection,
to check that these values don't cause malfunctions (bad
combustion, smoke presence, formation of gas in the pre-heater,
etc.). If necessary, change these values, keeping in mind that the
regulation thermostat must be set to a temperature 15° C higher
than the value to which the minimum thermostat is set. The
minimum thermostat must close at the minimum temperature
indispensable for the fuel to arrive at the nozzle with a viscosity
rate not exceeding 2° E. This is indispensable in order to obtain
good atomization. (For further information, see the viscosity -
temperature diagram with regard to the type of oil used).
