5 Storage
After being received, the batteries should be unpacked, installed and charged as soon as possible.
If this is not possible, store the batteries in a clean, dry, cool and frost-free area. Excessively high
storage temperature leads to more rapid self-discharge and premature ageing. Do not expose the
batteries to direct sunlight.
In order to avoid damage, after storage period of maximum 3 months (after receiving the goods)
an equalisation charge must be done on the batteries. The day of delivery should be used to
calculate the exact timings. At storage temperatures of over 20 °C, it is necessary to carry out
the above-mentioned equalisation charging more frequently (at 40 °C, the batteries must be
charged monthly). Ignoring these instructions may lead to deterioration in the performance and
may reduce the service life of the battery. Re-charging should be carried out a maximum of two
times during the storage period. Recharging during the storage period must be documented (see
the form in Appendix 11.1).
6 Preparing for installation
Please note down in the associated table the 9-digit identification numbers, the open-circuit vol-
tages and the commissioning data for all battery blocks before installation of the carrier system
(see Appendix 11.1). The identification numbers are imprinted into the battery block (near to the
terminal). The commissioning date is affixed to each battery block on a small sticker (format:
MM/YY).
6.1 Installation site
ATTENTION!
The battery system should not be stored, installed or operated in rooms endangered by floods.
Das sun | powerpack
must be installed on the floor at the installation site. The carrier sys-

tems should not be stacked on top of one another. The sun | powerpack
in such a manner that the open rear wall stands against a wall at the installation site.
The cover of the carrier should not be loaded with a weight > 5 kg.
The floor must be suitable for the installation of batteries, i. e.:
• suitable load-bearing capacity (see the following table of weights),
• at ground level
• as vibration-free as possible (otherwise, it is necessary to use special frames).

6.1.1 Safety clearance
RISK OF EXPLOSION!
Any sources of ignition or sparking equipment (e. g. naked flames, glowing objects, electrical
switches, sparks) must be kept away from the cell openings or the central degasification.
Pay attention to the safety clearance.

6.1.2 Ventilation
RISK OF EXPLOSION!
As the gases that arise during battery charging are unavoidable, sufficient ventilation must be
provided in order to reduce the hydrogen concentration.
The following points must be observed and followed for natural ventilation of the installation site:
• Separate intake and exhaust openings are necessary
• Intensified ventilation by means of chimney effect (air routing)
• Exhaust into the open air (not into air-conditioning system or adjacent rooms)
• The ventilation openings should ideally be fitted on opposite walls, or if they are fitted on the
same wall, they should be positioned at least 2 m apart.
Minimum cross-sections for separate intake and exhaust openings respectively:

6.2 Tools and Equipment
WARNING!
Carrying out installation work requires the use of personal protective equipment, protective
clothing, safety tools and other equipment, as described in Section 3.5.2. Use only tools with
insulated grips when doing work on batteries.
Equipment required:
• Safety equipment and protective clothing
• Torque wrench with attachment (wrench sizes: 10 mm, 13 mm, 17 mm and 22 mm)
• Ratchet with extension (wrench sizes: 10 mm, 13 mm and 17 mm)
• Paper or cloths for wiping made of cotton (do not use cloths made of synthetic fibres, as this
poses a risk of static charge), moistened with water
• Side cutter with insulating grip sleeves
• Insulated open-end spanner with sizes 10 mm and 17 mm
• Insulated slot screwdriver
• Allen key 2.5 mm
