Sulphuric acid at the installation site:
Solidify acid with binding agent – e.g. sand, and neutralise it with lime/soda arrange for its dispo-
sal while observing and following the official local provisions and do not let it reach the sewage
system, soil or waterways.
3.5.4 Fire-fighting instructions
DANGER!
In case of a fire at or in the battery system, leave the scene of the fire immediately and notify
the fire brigade promptly.
DANGER!
Wear personal protective equipment.
Use only dry extinguishing agents (powder, type ABC) to extinguish fires. Otherwise there is the
risk of a short circuit.
Wear protective clothing that can withstand acid. In case of contact with water there is the risk of
reactions with the electrolyte (acid) and, as a consequence, of severe splattering.
When extinguishing fires, use a respirator with independent supply of breathing air.
Do not point the fire extinguisher directly onto the battery/batteries to be extinguished. Otherwise
there is the risk that the battery housing will rupture as a result of thermal loads.
Extinguish the fire at short intervals. Otherwise, there is the risk of explosion by potential electro-
static charge on the battery housing.
If plastic, e.g. the battery housing, burns, toxic gases are formed. Leave the scene of fire as
quickly as possible if you are not wearing a respirator.
Ignoring these instructions may lead to severe physical injuries.
3.5.5 Disposal instructions
Old batteries with this sign are reusable goods and must be directed to the recycling process.
Please use the HOPPECKE recycling system. You can get information on the procurement of new
batteries from HOPPECKE Service.
You can reach HOPPECKE Service at the following telephone number: 0800 246 77 32.
According to the label with the crossed-out garbage can, these batteries must not be set out with
the household rubbish.
