11 APPENDIX B: EXPLANATIONS ABOUT ARC TEST

It is necessary to select proper arc fusion program if you want to obtain low fusion
loss. PROLITE-40 Fusion splicer can modify arc current and arc position automatically.
Basic theory:
The gap position of fiber's surface before arc is L0 and L1, The gap position of
fiber's surface after arc is L2 and L3. The formula is as follows:
Base on the value of "∆L", you can modify the quality of arc current.
The shrinking value of left fiber "∆L" is gotten from following formula:
The shrinking value of right fiber "∆L" is gotten from following formula:
Base on the value of ∆L1 and ∆L2, you can modify gap position to fit the change
of arc position.
NOTE:
Arc tests just only change current of arc parameter; you should optimise the arc
parameter.
