Practices for Pedestrian-Controlled
Rotary Lawnmowers

Training
• Read the instructionscarefully. Be familiarwith the
controlsand the properuse of the equipment.
Never allow children or people unfamiliarwith the
instructions to usa the lawnmower.Localregulations
may restrictthe age ofthe operator.
• Never mow while people,especiallychildren,or pets
am nearby.
• Keep In mindthat the operator or user is responsible
for accidentsor hazards occurringto otherpeopleor
their property.
II.
Preparation
• While mowing, alwayswear substantla! footwear and
long trousers. Do not operate the equipmentwhen
barefootor weadngopen sandals.
• ThoroughlyInspecttheareawherethe equipment I sto
be used and removeall objectswhichmay be thrown
by the machine.
• WARNING - Petrol Is highlyflammable.
- StorefuelIn containers specifically designedfor this
purpose.
- Refueloutdoorsonlyand do not smokewhile refu-
eling.
- Add fuel beforestartingthe engine. Never remove
thecap ofthefuel tankoradd petrolwhiletheengine
Is runningor when the engine Is hot.
- If petrolis spilled,do not attempt to startthe engine
butmovethe machine awayfrom thearea ofspillage
and avoidcreatinganysourceof ignition untilpetrol
vaporshavedlaslpated.
-Replace all fuel tanks and container caps se-
curety.
Replacefaultysllencors.
• Beforeusing,alwaysvtsuallyInspectto see that the
blades, bladeboltsand cutterassembly are not worn
or damaged. Replace wom or damaged blades and
boltsIn sets to preservebalance.
• On multl-bfaded machines,take care as rotating one
bladecan cause otherblades to rotate.
III. Operation
• Do not operate the engineIn a confinedspacewhere
dangerouscarbon monoJddafumes can collect.
• Mow onlyIn daylightor In goodartificiallight,
• Avoid operstlng the equipment In wet grass, where
feasible.
• Alwaysbe sure of yourfooting on slopes.
• Walk, never run.
• Forwheeledrotanjmachlnee,rnowecressthe faca of
slopes, neverup and down.
• Exerciseextremecautionwhen changing direction on
slopes.
• Do not mowexcessivelysteepslopes.
• Usa extreme caution when reversingor pullingthe
lawnmowertowardsyou.
• Stop the blade if the lawnmowerhas to be tiltedfor
transportation w hen crossing surfaces otherthan grass,
and when transporting thelawnmower toand fromthe
area to be mowed.
• Neveroperatethelawnmowerwith defective guards,or
withoutsafety devices,for example deflectors and/or
grass catchers, in place.
• DOnot changethe engine governorsettingsor over-
speedthe engine. Operatingthe engineat excessive
speed may Increasethe hazard ofpersonalinjury.
• Disengageall bladeand ddveclutchesbeforestarting
the engine.
• Start the engine or switchon the motorcarefullyac-
cordingto instructions and with feet well away from
the blade.
• Do not tiltthe lawnmower when startingthe engineor
switching on the motor,exceptIf the lawnmowerhas
to be tiltedfor starting. In this case, do not tilt morn
than absolutelynecessaryand liftonlythe part which
is awayfrom the operator.
• Do not start the engine when standingin front of the
dischargechute.
• Do not put hands or feet near or under rotating parts.
Keep clear of the dischargeopeningat all times•
• Never pickup or carry lawnmower whilethe engineis
running.
• Stop the engine and disconnect the sparkplug wire:
- beforecleaningblockages or unclogging chute;
- beforechecking,cleaningor workingon the lawn-
mower;
- afterstdklng a foreignobject.Inspectthelawnmower
for damage and make repairsbefore restartingand
operatingthe lawnmower;
- ifthelawnmower startstovibrateabnormally (check
Immediately).
• Stopthe engine:
- whenever you leave the lawnmower;
- beforerefuelling.
• Reduce the throttlesettingdudngengine shutdown
and,Iftheengine isprovided withe shut.offvalve,turn
the fuel offat the conclusion of mowing.
• Go slowwhen usinga trailingseat.
IV. Maintenance
and Storage
• Keep all nuts, boltsand screwstight to be sure the
equipmentIs In safe workingcondition.
• Neverstoretheequipment w ith patrolln thetank Inside
a buildingwhere fumes may reach an open flameor
spark.
• Allowthe engine to coolbeforestodngIn any enclo-
sure.
• To reducethe fire hazard, keep the engine,silencer,
battery compartment and petrol storage area free of
grass,leaves,or excessivegrease.
• Check the grasscatcher frequently for wear or date-
rioration.
•
Replacewornor damaged partsfor eafaty.
• If the fuel tank hasto be drained,this shouldbe done
outdoors.
