4.3 - Commissioning
check that the electrical equipment is correctly earthed
before starting work.
Before commissioning the machine, check that all the fixings
and electrical connections are correctly tightened.
after commissioning, check for noise, vibration, operation of
the buttons/switches and also check the current and voltage
on the machine whilst it is operating at rated load.
5 - MAINTENANCE/SERVICING
5.1 - After one month's operation
- check that the screws and electrical connections are
correctly tightened.
- check the vibration. check that there is no abnormal noise.
- if the brake wear needs to be checked: measure the
brake air gap and check that it conforms to 0.3 - 0.6 mm as
described under section 6.1.
5.2 - Every year
same as section 5.1.

6 - BRAKE AND MICROSWITCH
ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURE
6.1 - Brake airgap control
The motor must not run during control.
- Disconnect the motor and the control system!
- control the airgap in proximity of the fixing screws, between
the armature disc and the brake coil, with a calibre gauge.
- the brake is designed for static applications. Dynamic
braking is limited to urgency and test braking only.
normal operation will not result in noticeable wear of the
brake discs.
- the measured airgap must be between 0.3 and 0.6 mm.
- if an adjustment appears to be necessary, contact an agreed
leroy-somer service center.
- control the noise level of each brake (no clacking) and
make sure the sheave runs freely when the brake is released.
6.2 - Microswitch control
- each brake is equipped with one microswitch.
- the microswitches are closed when the brake is closed
(active).
- the microswitches are connected in series.
- control the microswitches at hand of an ohmmeter.
- control successively each microswitch, after having short-
cutted the other one. operate the brake several times (open/
close) and repeat on at least 3 equidistant points during a
complete rotation of the brake disc.
6.3 - Brake and Microswitch adjustement
This operation must be made by an agreed Leroy-
Somer Service Center.
7 - REPLACING ENCODER
AND SHEAVE
7.1 - Replacing the encoder
Secure the load before any work is carried out on
the motor. Check that no torque is applied to the
rotor.
- When replacing the encoder, the cables must be removed
from the sheave to avoid any resistant torque during the
calibration of the encoder.
- Disconnect the encoder.
- Disconnect the brake connector(s).
- check that the encoder supplied is identical to the one on
the motor.
