Free Fall Distance, Total Fall Distance, and System Elongation

Use ONLY an MSA integral or separate shock absorbing lanyard to connect the fall arrester to the
dorsal D-ring of the harness. The length of the lanyard must comply with applicable agency stand-
ards as defined in Section 1.2.1 of this User Instruction manual. Misuse can result in death or serious
injury. Consider the elongation of the fall arrester when determining the adequate clearance to
obstructions or grade in the event of a fall; otherwise, the clearance may be insufficient, resulting in
death or serious injury.

Do not exceed free fall distance specified by applicable regulations and standards. To calculate the total fall
distance, sum the following:
2x length of the rope grab (found on label)
shock absorber extension (found on label)
stretch in rope at 1800 lbf
(found on label and in this user instruction)
3ft safety margin
