7.1. Switching on the
Lawn Trimmer
(Figure C)
Connect the power cable to the
extension and plug it into the
mains power supply. Insert the
cable into the cable lock
(Figure C) in the work handle.
The cable lock prevents you
from disconnecting the electrical
connection accidentally.
Press the switch (2) in the work
handle (1) to switch on the unit.
Release the switch (2) again to
switch off the unit (Figure A).
Do not remove or bridge
A
the safety devices installed
on the unit by the manufacturer
e.g. by fastening the ON switch
to the handle. This will prevent
the unit from switching off auto-
matically and may cause serious
injury.
Caution! The cutting tool does
not stop straight away when
you switch off the unit!
7.2. Working Position
(Figure D)
Ensure you have a secure foot-
hold when working. Hold the
Lawn Trimmer with the work
handle (1) in one hand the addi-
tional grip (9) in the other hand.

8. Maintenance / care / storage
Inspecting the unit on a regular
basis (checking the screws and
bolts are seated securely, check-
ing for cracks and other damage)
and replacing defective or worn
parts as necessary will prevent
accidents and unit failure.
For safety reasons, repairs must
only be carried out by an autho-
rised specialist.
Lawn Trimmer at an angle of
approximately 30° relative to the
ground. This angle is achieved
automatically if you hold the
Lawn Trimmer in front of you by
the work handle (1) (Figure D).
7.3. Angle Adjustment
(Figure H) 400 RT
You can adjust the angle of your
Lawn Trimmer handle to make it
easier to trim grass below trees,
bushes and shrubs. To change
the angle, unscrew the adjusting
bolt (13) and adjust the handle
to the required position. Then
tighten the adjusting bolts again.
7.4. Handle Extension
(Figure G) 400 RT
You can extend the handle of the
Trimmer for a comfortable work-
ing position and for optimum use
of your Trimmer. To extend the
handle, press and hold down
the button (5) in the guide hand
while you pull the grip upwards.
Release the button again once
you have adjusted the handle to
the desired length.

guard bow (14) makes it difficult
for the cutting head to come into
contact with the ground. Make
sure that the cutting head can
always rotate freely.
7.6. Trimming the Edges of
Lawns and Less Accessible Places
(Figure E / F)
Allow the Lawn Trimmer to swing
back and forth slightly (Figure E).
To cut vertically, turn the Lawn
Trimmer 180° at the work
handle (1) so that the protective
cover (8) faces upwards
(Figure F).
7.7. Lengthening the Cutting Line
A clean cut can only be guaran-
teed when the cutting line is at
its maximum length. The cutting
line wears and becomes shorter
with use. Stop and lengthen
the cutting line when you notice
the cutting performance has
reduced.
7.8. Line Feed
(Figure J)
With the motor running, tap
the cutting head of the Lawn
Trimmer gently on the ground.
The line is lengthened auto-
matically. If the line is too long,
the line limiter shortens it to the
correct length.
Due to the risk of physical injury
and damage to property:
Never clean the unit under run-
ning water, especially not using
a high-pressure water jet!
Store the unit in a dry place that
is protected from frost.
Store the unit out of the reach of
children.
