Assembly procedure
Fit the vehicle upon the arms of a workshop jack.
Perform the disassembly and reassembly of individual parts according to the ŠKODA
workshop manual.
- Remove:
- the rear bumper (including dirt strainers if the vehicle is provided with them) and the beam.
Caution. After removing the beam of the rear bumper, add anticorro-
sive protection in the points of contact between the bumper and the
bodywork. The places without anticorrosive protection with bare
(zinc-coated) sheet metal are to be sprayed twice (min. 25 microns)
with anticorrosive filler in spray (Spray Max 1K Acryl Füller). Once the
filler gets dry at a temperature of about 20° C for about 20 min. apply
the Multi Wax preservation wax in spray (comp. Henkel). After treating
the body with anticorrosive protection, screw on the screws disman-
tled from the beam back to the respective holes on the back front of
the car (Fig. 4).
Cutting out a hole for towing arm in the rear bumper
- 2 -
- Put the dismantled rear bumper on the soft felt pad with the inside up. Wash the area of the
bumper at the spot of the pre-pressed hole for towing arm with a mild detergent solution.
- As accustomed in the service shop then cut out a hole for the towing arm using a suitable
tool.
- 3 -
- Make visual check of the quality of the cut-out hole edge.
- If needed, adapt and neaten it using a suitable tool.
Fitting of the towing coupling on the vehicle
- 5 -
- Remove the cappings from the holes for clamping the towing coupling on the rear longitu-
dinal girders (both sides of the vehicle) -arrows-. Then treat the surface around the holes
with anticorrosive protection in the same manner as you did the spots on the body when
dismantling the beam.
- If necessary, remove the parts of the plastisol inside the longitudinal girders.
- 6 -
- Fit the towing coupling (A) by its longitudinal beams into the holes at the rear front of the
vehicle and set it to the correct position so that the screw axes pass the centres of the
fastening holes in the longitudinal girders.
- Screw the beams on slightly using four fixing bolts M10 x 35 (B) to the vehicle chassis.
- Check the position of the towing coupling and tighten the screws on both sides (alter-
nately) with the torque of 55 Nm ± 10 % +90° -detail-.
