Warning
1. This manual must be read before installing the anchorage
point. It is essential that the instructions are followed.
2. This manual must be kept and made available to all users.
Additional copies can be supplied by TRACTEL on request.
3. The Ringsafe must only be installed by a technician who is
experienced in the technique to be used and in accordance
with the safety rules.
4. The Ringsafe fixing must withstand the forces specified in
standard NF EN 795 class A1.
(Resistance > 10kN)
5. The connection of a PPE to the Ringsafe and its use must be
demonstrated to all operators before use.
6. If the fall indicator is missing, or there is any obvious damage
or deformation, use of this anchorage point must be halted
immediately.
7. The rules for attaching PPE products together to create a fall
arrest system must be followed in accordance with standard
EN363 (section VII)
8. The Ringsafe must only be used for anchoring personal fall
arrest protection equipment (PPE) (directive 89/686/EEC).
SPECIAL APPLICATIONS
For any special application, please contact Tractel.
Functions and description
The Ringsafe device is an anchorage point fitted with a fall
indicator. If the operator connected to this device falls, its
operation is indicated by the breaking of fastener S on ring A
(fig.2), causing the ring to be displaced downwards.
The PPE system must be connected to the Ringsafe using a
connector attached to the ring which constitutes the fall indicator.
Ringsafe anchorage points with fall indicator are intended
exclusively for anchoring a personal fall protection system. The
fall indicator on the Ringsafe is triggered by a force > 250 daN.
The Ringsafe has been designed for easy attachment of a
remote connector (electricity workers, pylon workers, window
cleaners, etc).
OPTION :
A reflective adhesive strip, for visibility at night, can be supplied
on request.
Installation
If it is stored before installation, the Ringsafe must be kept in a
clean, dry place.
Fit the Ringsafe so that the position of the fall indicator ring is
visible to the user of the fall arrest device.
The Ringsafe must be installed according to proper procedures
and following the recommendations of the manufacturer of the
fastenings (plugs, etc).
The Ringsafe must be fixed on its support using 12 mm diameter
bolts and nuts, providing a minimum shear strength of 1000 daN.
The corrosion resistance of the fastening must be appropriate for
the aggressiveness of the environment in which the anchorage is
installed.
As the Ringsafe is made of stainless steel, it is recommended
that a stainless steel fastening is used.
Recommendations
concerning
informative appendix A of standard NF EN795 :
If it is fixed in steel or wood, it is recommended that a skilled tech-
nician carries out a calculation to check that the design and
mounting data comply with standard NF EN795 class A.
If it is fixed in other materials, it is recommended that the
installer checks that the structural materials are appropriate,
using a sample of the material in question (see European
standard NF EN795-A1).
installation

in
Once the fastening is in place (chemical, mechanical or other
type of plug), it is recommended that its quality is tested by
subjecting it to an axial pulling force of 5 kN for 15 seconds.
Caution: this test must be carried out before the anchorage point
with fall indicator is installed.
Carrying out this test with the anchorage point in place could
cause the fall indicator ring to break.
Operation
CAUTION
Before and during use, you must consider how any
necessary rescue operation could be efficiently and safely
carried out.
The Ringsafe may be placed on a vertical, horizontal or sloping
support. It is essential that the direction in which the force is
applied is within the conical area shown in figure 3.
The Ringsafe must be checked before each use of the fall arrest
device to ensure that the fall indicator is still in the initial position.
CAUTION
As far as possible, the anchorage point should be located
above the operator, in order to limit the height of fall.
Inspection and maintenance
Before each use of the Ringsafe :
+
Visual inspection to check that it is in apparent good order.
+
Check that the indicator ring A is still in place and that section
S is not damaged.
+
If the Ringsafe has been involved in a fall, it is essential that it
is no longer used. It must be scrapped and replaced after
checking the structure.
It is recommended that the Ringsafe is inspected at least once a
year.
Warning against hazardous operations
The following is prohibited :
+
Use of a Ringsafe which no longer has a fall indicator.
+
Use of a Ringsafe which has a fault (corrosion, deformation,
etc).
+
Use of a Ringsafe which has stopped a fall and which has not
been replaced.
+
Using one Ringsafe for the protection of a number of people.
+
Suspending loads from the Ringsafe.
+
Applying traction in a direction other than that indicated in
Section 4.
+
Making any modification to the Ringsafe.
Permissible attachments
The Ringsafe must only be used to protect one person at a time.
In accordance with standard EN 363, the following products can
be attached:
+
An anchorage device (EN 795)
+
A connector (EN 362)
+
A fall arrest system (EN 3xxx)
+
A fall arrest harness (EN 361)
(back or chest anchorage point)
Conformity of the equipment
Safety of an operator for short horizontal movements and for
vertical movements.
The Ringsafe is designed for the safety of a single user.
The Ringsafe meets the requirements of EN795 class A1 for
fixed anchorage devices. This class of anchorage is not subject
to the PPE directive 89/686/EEC (No CE certification).
