Troubleshooting

Symptom
The power does not turn on.
Picture does not appear.
Picture is too dark.
Color balance is not correct.
On-screen displays do not
appear.
The buttons on the control
panel do not function.
INPUT B cannot be selected.
The dark portion of the
picture is noisy.
Small letters such as the
subtitles of a movie are
illegible.

Self-diagnosis Function

If the unit appears to be operating erratically, try to diagnose and correct
the problem, using the following guide. If the problem still persists,
consult with qualified Sony personnel.
Cause
The main power is not set to on.
The picture is muted.
Cable is disconnected.
Input selection is not correct.
Contrast is set to minimum.
SCREEN BRIGHT is set to minimum.
Picture has not been adjusted properly.
The on-screen displays are turned off.
The buttons are locked.
The BKJ-100 JJTRON Accessory Board
is not installed, or is not attached
properly.
When the ambient brightness is
insufficient, noisy picture may appear
according to the type of the input signal.
This is caused by the characteristics of
the unit and is not a malfunction.
This unit has a self-diagnosis function.
This function informs you of the unit's condition by the STANDBY button
on the control panel flashing.
If the STANDBY button flashes in red, lower the breaker and contact you
authorized Sony dealer.
Remedy
Raise the breaker at the rear of the unit (see page 17
(GB)).
Press the MUTING PIC key (see page 18 (GB)).
Check that the proper connections have been
made (see page 14 (GB)).
Select the input signal correctly (see page 17 (GB)).
Adjust the contrast with the CONTR+ key (see page
20 (GB)).
Adjust the brightness of the screen with the
SCREEN BRIGHT+ key (see page 18 (GB)).
Adjust the picture with the PICTURE CONTROL+/–
keys (see page 20 (GB)).
Press the STATUS ON key (see page 18 (GB)).
Set KEY LOCK to OFF in the SETTING menu (see
page 25 (GB)).
Attach the BKJ-100 to the INPUT B board
attachment part correctly (see page 9 (GB)).
Adjust with the SCREEN BRIGHT +/– keys (see
page 18 (GB)).
