Installation and connection (continued)
4.2.3
Installing the BTL
NOTICE
Interference in function
Improper installation can compromise the function of the
BTL and result in increased wear.
► The mounting surface of the BTL housing must
make full contact with the supporting surface.
► The bore must be perfectly sealed (O-ring/flat seal).
► Check the suitability of the O-ring (Viton GFLT90) for
the specific application.
► When tightening the BTL, a torque of 50 Nm may
not be exceeded.
► If installed in a hydraulic cylinder outside of zone 0,
the magnet should not make contact with the rod.
Protect the rod from damage and wear.
► Make a mounting hole with thread (possibly with
countersink for the O-ring) acc. to Fig. 4-4.
► Screw the BTL with mounting thread into the mounting
hole (max. torque 50 Nm).
► Install the magnet (accessory).
► From 500 mm nominal length: support the rod and
attach it at the end if necessary.

Application 2: fill level measurement in zone 0
(with float, according to section 7.1)
4.3.1
Preparing for installation
Installation note: We recommend using non-
magnetizable material to mount the BTL and float.
Avoid magnetic field interference at the screw-in thread,
e.g. by the weld seam at the threaded flange!
Install the BTL in such a manner that only the rod extends
into the explosive area of zone 0 and the body and
electronics remain behind a separating wall in the explosive
area of zone 1.
The spacer tube ensures that the float does not move into
the damping zone in the bottom end of the rod.
The depth of the mounting hole must be at least 25 mm.
At least 5 thread pitches must be engaged and there must
be a thread coverage of at least 8 mm.
Multiple floats: A second float may be used in order to
measure the position of the separating layer between two
liquids (e.g. oil and condensation). Suitable float:

Important notes
–
Only the floats listed under Accessories may
be used as magnets in zone 0 (see
section 7.1).
–
Design measures ensure that the floats are
electrically connected with the rod in any
position. The specified installation position
must be observed!
–
Only use the cotter pin once!
1. Install the float (accessory) taking the orientation into
account (raised markings on top, see section 7.1).
2. Secure the float using the cotter pin (included in the
scope of delivery of the float), without placing any
mechanical loads on the rod. Insert the cotter pin
through the hole and hold it at the eye with a pair of
pliers. With a second pair of pliers, bend the straight
ends of the cotter pin around the rod one after another.
