specified application and for the intended purpose recommended by Volvo Penta. Any use other than those specified
may give unpredictable results and result in equipment failure or personal injury.
When following these instructions the installer must adhere to all U.S. Coast Guard Safety Regulations and ABYC
Recommendations and Standards, or other regional regulation that may be in effect.

Fresh Water Cooling Kit for 4.3, 5.0, & 5.7 Liter Engines
KIT CONTENTS
Please refer to "KIT (3812500) CONTENTS" on page 18 for a full listing of the kit contents.
KIT PURPOSE
This kit provides the necessary parts to convert one raw water cooled engine into a fresh water cooled
(closed cooling system) engine.
AFFECTED MODELS
4.3, 5.0, & 5.7 Liter Raw Water Cooled Engines.

GENERAL PRECAUTIONS

The following is general information required when
working on the cooling system:
Make sure that the engine has cooled off
before removing any hoses.
When attaching new hoses, trim to size.
When tightening hose fittings, use sealant
compound (PN 1141570) on the threads.
Save all clamps; if a clamp part number is
not called out in the steps, reuse the saved
clamps.
Observe all notices and cautions.
CAUTION!
THIS INSTALLATION MUST BE CARRIED OUT WITH THE BOAT OUT OF THE WATER;
FAILURE TO REMOVE THE BOAT FROM THE WATER WILL CAUSE FLOODING OF THE BOAT.

TOOLS NEEDED

Adjustable Crescent Wrench
Socket Wrench
8 in. (20cm) socket extension
Sockets heads: 1/4 in. (6.5mm), 5/16 in. (8mm),
12mm, 9/16 in. (14mm), 3/4 in. (19mm), 7/8 in.
(22mm)
Cutting tool (i.e. wire cutters, clippers)
Utility knife
Screw driver
Thread sealant compound (PN 1141570)
NOTE!
If, at any time, you are unsure of hose
routing, please refer to "Water and Engine
Coolant Flow Diagram" on page 22 for a
clarification of where hoses must lead.
