7. Troubleshooting
General
Faults usually only occur if you do
not operate, care for and maintain
your lawnmower properly. The
following table contains the most
common faults and remedies to
rectify these faults. If you encounter
any other faults, please contact
your closest service centre author-
ised by the manufacturer or an
authorised specialist dealer.
Fault
Abnormal noises,
lawnmower rattles.
Lawnmower does not run smoothly
or vibrates vigorously.
Motor does not start
(Briggs & Stratton
Quattro 40 motor).
Motor does not start
(Honda GCV motor).
Motor does not start.
Motor starts for a short time then
suddenly stops with a loud bang.
Lawn turning yellow, cut not clean.
Wheel tractor drive fails
to function.

Bolts at motor, its fixings or mower
housing are loose.
Blade damaged (out of balance),
cutter bar fixings at motor shaft
loose.
Primer was not operated
when starting the motor.
No fuel, fuel tank empty.
Throttle not set to
"Choke" position.
Spark plug defective or
fuel tank empty.
Cylinders, pistons and bearing
of crankshaft have seized.
No motor oil in crankcase.
Blade is too blunt,
cutting height too low.
Drive belt broken.
Clutch cable stretched.

the result of incorrect repair, or if
parts other than our original parts
or parts approved by us were
used to replace original product
parts, or if the repairs were not
carried out at a service centre
authorised by the manufacturer
or by an authorised specialist. The
same applies to additional parts

Remedy
Tighten bolts.
Tighten bolts for blade.
Damaged parts must
be replaced at an authorised
service centre.
Press the primer several times
(see Point 4, Putting your
Lawnmower into Operation).
Set the throttle to the "Choke"
position (see Point 4, Putting your
Lawnmower into Operation).
Clean spark plug and/or
fill the fuel tank.
Motor overhaul at specialist
workshop required.
Change blade and/or use
a slightly higher cutting height.
The drive belt is to be replaced.
Obtain assistance from
a Brill Service Station.
Readjust the clutch cable.
