3.5 Charge/charge retention/buffer
mode (charge mode)
• Do not store the device outdoors.
• Determine the type of battery.
• Connect the charging clips to the battery termi-
nals, ensuring the correct polarity. Red clip (+) on
positive pole, black clip (–) on negative pole.
• Connect the device to the mains and switch on
with the button.
• In the basic setting, a universal profile (Uni) is
selected that can charge all of the named rechar-
geable batteries.
• The charger will switch on automatically after
a voltage test and will start charging/retaining
charge.
• Attention! Does the set charging voltage match
the battery voltage?
• The charging current and charging voltage are
shown on the LCD display.
• The charge indicator lamps will light up accor-
ding to the charge status of the battery.
• If the green 'End of charge/charge retention'
LED lights up after charging, the charger has
switched over to charge retention.
• If the battery is run down by a consuming device
while the charge is being retained, the BLG
12/24 V – 120 A charger will automatically
ensure the appropriate charging.
• Charge retention can be carried out indefinitely.
• Observe the maintenance instructions of the
battery manufacturer.
• Buffer operation of the battery is possible for the
entire duration of charging or charge retention. If
the battery is run down by a consuming device,
the BLG 12/24 V – 120 A charger will supply
the appropriate current (within the above-speci-
fied limits).
Charging exhausted batteries
• The charger reliably detects exhausted batteries.
• The charger will start the charging process gently
with a low charging current and will then auto-
matically adapt it to the battery status.
• In order for the charger to start charging, the
battery voltage must be at least 1.5 V for 12 V or
3 V for 24 V.
3.6 Support mode/external power sup-
ply mode
• In support mode, the vehicle can be buffered
while, e.g., changing the battery. This means
that important data and settings are retained.
The BLG 12/24 V – 120 A charger will switch
on at a level of 13 V and will maintain this until
maximum current consumption.
• Connect charging clips to the battery terminals,
ensuring the correct polarity: red clip (+) to posi-
tive pole, black clip (–) to negative pole.
• Connect the device to the mains and switch on
with the button.
• Press the "Charge mode" field on the touch dis-
play for approx. 3 seconds; the operating mode
will switch to support mode. The LED will flash.
Warning! Risk of short circuit!
• Start the function using the button.
• The support mode lamp will light up. The flowing
current and voltage will be shown on the LC display.
• This operating mode will remain active until it is
ended using the button.
• In support mode, the charger only works without any
battery reverse voltage, i.e., when this operating mode
is selected, there is voltage across the charging clips
and reverse polarity cannot be detected.
Before disconnecting the charging clips,
the device must always be switched off
using the button.
3.7 Operation
The BLG 12/24 V – 120 A charger offers a multi-
tude of functions and setting options. The operating
structure is clearly organised and enables intuitive
operation of the device via the touch display.
