1.
Remove underbody panel - Using a flat head screwdriver, 10 mm socket, and 12 mm socket, remove (5) rivets, (2) nuts, and (1) nut respectively from driver side underbody panel.
Remove the panel.
2.
Lower exhaust– Using an exhaust hanger removal tool, lower muffler by removing (2) rearmost rubber hangers. A spray of lubricant or soapy water on rubber hangers makes them slide
off metal pins more easily. NOTE: Be sure that exhaust is properly supported before removing rubber hangers.
3.
Remove heat shield – Using a 10 mm socket, remove (5) nuts from exhaust heat shield. Remove the heat shield.
4.
Feed forward fasteners – Using a flat head screwdriver, remove plastic cover from access holes on both sides. Feed the carriage bolts ① and spacers ② to forward attachment holes
through access holes using the pull wires ⑤, see Figures 1 & 2. Leave pull wires attached.
5.
Drill holes – Raise the hitch into position and align it with forward attachment holes and carriage bolts. Use marker to mark a drill point at rearward hole center of the bracket, both
sides. Make sure the hitch sits straight with location marked. Lower the hitch down and use drill to drill a 1/2'' hole, both sides.
6.
Trim underbody panel & heat shield – Using a tape measure, marker, tin snip, and utility knife, measure, mark, and trim the area on the panel and heat shield as shown in Figure 3 & 4.
7.
Install hitch – Feed remaining carriage bolts ① and spacers ② to drilled holes using the pull wires ⑤ (reuse previous pull wire and tape new pull wire together to reach drilled hole).
Reinstall the heat shield into position with (4) nuts. Raise the hitch into position and feed the pull wires through bracket holes. Remove pull wires and loosely install conical washers ③
and hex nuts ④ to the hitch.
8.
Tighten all 7/16-14x1.50 GR 5 fasteners to 50 ft-lb (68 N*m).
9.
Reinstall the exhaust and underbody panel. Note: (2) rearmost fasteners of underbody panel will not be reinstalled after trimming.
Note: check hitch frequently, making sure all fasteners and ball are properly tightened. If hitch is removed, plug all holes in trunk pan or other body panels to prevent entry of water and exhaust fumes. A
hitch or ball which has been damaged should be removed and replaced. Observe safety precautions when working beneath a vehicle and wear eye protection. Do not cut access or attachment holes with a
torch. This product complies with safety specifications and requirements for connecting devices and towing systems of the state of New York, V.E.S.C. Regulation V-5 and SAE J684.
